    Eyeball mascot costume???

At Vision West there was someone walking around in an eyeball costume. My OD has decided our office needs one of these for events we participate in each year. Anyone heard of where you can get those - or better yet - does anyone have one they want to sell? I called a company in San Diego who custom makes inflatable costumes but theirs are close to $2000. Other things I have found on-line looks more like kids Halloween costumes......

Why don't you call REED who puts on Vision Expo and ask them where to get the costume?

Here in Omaha, we have Oriental Trading Company and they supply A LOT of different things like that. The other office I worked at, we all wore goofy hats that had eyeballs on it (similar to a jokers hat) I don't know if they supply them anymore but you can look into something like that. In fact, it was such a hit at local parades..we ordered more and gave them away with purchases of $100 or more.

Eyeball from Three Rivers or Think About Your Eyes

The walking eyeball could be from one of two sources: Three Rivers Optical Lab in Pittsburgh or the Think About Your Eyes (TAYE) organization. You could call them to find out how they got the costumes, cost, etc.

It was from Think About Your Eyes campaign. You can reach them at http://thinkaboutyoureyes.com/

Here's a video shot at Vision Expo so you can see them and learn more about Think About Your Eyes http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ndycIhADO1s

Hi diggindirt - the eyeball mascot costumes you saw at VEW (and will see again in a week and a half) came from 1800mascots.com. Be sitting down when you talk to them though - the price was over $3K apiece. We are looking at ways to simplify the costume so the next ones we buy will - hopefully - cost far less.

...cause that don't look like 3 large worth of design/materials/skill to me.

Any doctors around that would do a full workup on one of those eyes.

I agree - but that was the price back in 2010. I think the design could be simplified, from a full orb to more of an M&M shape. That would also make it easier for the person inside to see out - right now these things take a handler to lead the wearers around. Stay tuned if you're interested. We will see what we can find out this week.

Maybe Im diff, but I personally avoid all places that make a human being stand outside in one of those or twirl a sign... If there is one other place local doing it, why would you want to do that as well? come up with something bigger or better.

Know what you are saying.........down the street from the office for several months now, in front of a tire and lube joint, there has been a dude, dressed as a girl, (at times looking like a hooker), standing on the corner dancing around. Shoot they even made him a 8ft elevated platform to stand on and painted it bright yellow. All of this in the name of trying to drum up business. I never go into those type place s's. I just feel that if they have to go to those extremes to drum up business it is a place I do not want to be seen going into...........its just my comfort level I guess.

Hey . . . give the poor schlub a break. Remember he has 80K in student loans to pay off for his BA in Theater Arts.
