    Tightening temple covers?

Any good way to tighten temple covers so they don't shift much? :hammer:I try to tell the patients that they are designed to be removable and replaceable, so some "give" is perfectly fine... but you know how trying to tell pts things goes sometimes...

Try clear nail polish......cheapest works best. Heat the temple cover slightly to either remove, or retract far back on the temple. Swab with a generous amount of nail polish, and slide the temple cover back in place. Wipe off excess and air dry with frame warmer(no heat). Repeat for other temple.

Nice, uncut. How's the removability with this... because I just know if I do that this guy is going to be the one who gets them all green and crusty and demands new ones...

Although I did once very carefully take the Lindstroms to a 15 year old pair of absolutely crusted on ones and managed to slowly cut and chip them off and do a replacement, so I guess that would probably work again.

There is a little trick you can use with shrinkwrap see http://www.centrostyle.com/ebook/ver...6/81039GB.html Just a tiny piece works a treat, and it's removable. However, you need a bit of skill to keep the edges from curling and then irritating the client.

Alternatively, find a temple tip that fits - there are literally dozens of sizes to choose from.

    Good luck

These tips did fit. He just didn't like the fact that he was able to yank on them and move them a mm or two.

Uncut's method should work fine - there's just enough acetone in nail polish to melt the plastic tip and then it will solidify. However, you will still be able to remove them - just heat.
Sometimes, though you can just heat the whole plastic tip (on the frame) and plunge into icy water. This will shrink SOME types of plastic temple tips.

1: use Temple tips with the correct inside diameter.
2: place bends in the temple to conform to head and upper ear (will stay on with these).
3: Don't use glue or you will wish you had not when they need replaced. Hate the Chi-com stuff that glues them on at manufacture.

Not an issue....heat and remove as usual. The old crusty-type ones?......Crush them with a fibre jaw plier, and they come off easily!

Definitely worth a try. Also at times I will put a more severe bend in the temple than I normally would. If you can get a nice 90-or-so degree bend it's enough sometimes to keep it in place.

I am starting to think I am the only optician in my general area who can properly adjust these. I see this all the time. GRRRRRR.

I would heat them up an and then cool them off. Also if you can put a slight bend in them it helps to.

Is the patient complaining that his nose pads wiggle too? I get that a lot.

The wiggle part of nose pads was invented to help those opticians who in a whole lifetime never were able to adjust rigid ones properly. They are called self adjusting pads.

The only thing worse is the optician who bends the end piece into a riding bow curve.
