    Ikea

My daughter wants a white bedroom set must be solid color no wood grain visible, I insist it be adult size and we are finding very few "real" furniture sets that fit the bill. Ikea has several on their website. The local Ikea isn't real convienent to me and before I drive out there for a hands on I just want any opinions on their quality especially if you've ever bought anything bigger than a bookshelf.

    thanks in advance.

    because it's cheap?
    because of the style?
    because of the quality?

Ikea stuff is like any other stuff. Sometimes it is great, sometimes you want to throw it in a pile and burn it. You really need to look at it and see if it is made of wood or particle board...if it is sturdy or bends when you fill the drawers with weight. Kinda like the difference between buying eyewear online or at brick and mortar.

I thought all their stuff was particle board put it together yourself furniture, but better quality. It doesn't seem like they market to the dorm room crowd, so I was hoping that maybe it wasn't cheaply made. I was really hoping that someone would either say it is crap so that I wouldn't make an unnecessary trip or great so I'd feel better about taking the ride out there. Oh well I just have to buck up and drag my daughter kicking and screaming (she loves furniture shopping).

Just a thought- Maybe contact a local underemployed carpenter to make one?

Also I don't know how far you want to travel but in western Mass are the "Greater Gardner Furniture Outlets"

Here's a page from one place

I've purchased both solid wood and partical board crappy but functional stuff from them. I think that anything you purchase from them in white is going to be that laminate stuff. It also depends on how well you put stuff together. I've got two ikea items in my kids room, and they are both the laminate style material. One I've actually attached to the wall because it's so unstable that I'm afraid it will fall on them. They other is a bureau that seems to be very stable. The wardrobe was actually from a friend and she gave it to me, and I must admit, we were having an 'I am woman hear me roar' day and we put the wardrobe together ourselves. Could totally be operator error, and that may be why it's a pos.

What about le target? they might have something online?

Had a new kitchen done with Ikea Cabinets, looks superb and acts superb, installed by my local carpenter. who also did a new tile floor and halogen lights recessed into ceiling. I do think that Ikea is the real modern store with new ideas and no designer brand names are needed.
