1) What does "Rx" stand for? What is the difference between Rx lab and manufacturing plant?
2) How much should I invest roughly to found a lab?
3) Normally how much is the profit rate?

I just... wow.
Here goes.
1. Rx means presription. Rx labs are manufacturing plants that use molded lens blanks to manufacture lenses based on a Rx.
2.Investment from $100,000 to $10,000,000+ USD
3. Lower than most people think.
Send me a PM for more info.
Actually a litteral translation is Recipe.
Well, not exactly. ℞ is a symbol meaning "prescription," sometimes written as "Rx" or just "Rx". This symbol originated in medieval manuscripts as an abbreviation of the Late Latin verb recipe, the imperative form of recipere, "to take" or "take thus". Literally, the Latin word recipe means simply "Take...." (as a command) and medieval prescriptions invariably began with the command to "take" certain materials and compound them in specified ways. Today, when a medical practitioner writes a prescription beginning with "℞", he or she is giving the "take this medicine" command.
There are rules. Knowing those are easy. There are exceptions to the rules. Knowing those are easy. Knowing when to use them is slightly less easy. There are exceptions to the exceptions. Knowing those is a little more tricky, and know when to use those is even more so. Our industry is FULL of all of the above.
Essilor is sending work to SE Asia..... why not get in on it?
Of course my 666th post would be about Essilor....

Thanks for all your responses.
Does it mean that in the Rx lab, we are surfacing the back-side of lenses with the semi-finished lenses provided by other plants by either digital-surfacing or mold technology? We are not beginning from the monomer with cast or injection process, right?
For progressive lenses, in Rx labs, can we produce all types of designs. That is, front-side, back-side and double-side (no need to use the mold, start from the blanks for this type?) progressive designs?
Which is more profitable? To manufacture low-end products or mid to high-end products?
Let's say if I invest $1 mil, how much is my return per year?
Where can I find some materials related to the Rx lab and equipments needed?
That is probably the hardest question today. ON Line opticals are defintely gaining speed and they work on minimum margins, so you will have to know what you want to do in order to make it. The most successful way would be to supply inexpensive jobs that are of top quality and you might be able to sell them in 360 degree circle.
You should really study the international market a little closer.
Sent you a PM about a specialty lab.
How lab is work?
This is a wacky thread..
Startung a new lab? Better think out of the box and develop something different. There are a lot of labs out there
What if we have our own sales network (to ECP) and just need to pay for the click fee and semi-finished lenses? Is it worth investing?
