    Frame Painting

    Hi all:
Does anyone know where I can get a metal frame painted blue (either powder-coat or electrostatic painting)?
Years ago a couple of companies did our Porsche sunglasses but they've all disappeared.
    Any leads would be appreciated.
    Thanks
Rich, wishing all a happy, healthy, and prosperous New Year.

Wish I had the $$$$, I'd start doing it here. OKO Art was doing them, but I haven't been able to find them lately.

There are any number of suppliers of powder coating equipment and supplies on the net. Google "powder coating AND supplies" and you will find them. If you are clever you can probably get started real cheap.

Thanks for the quick reply. I did contact them. They used to do it but stopped because thay couldn't get consistant results with all the different frame metals out there. BTW they'e in Beverly Hills. I googled OKO Clips for their number.

Best wishes for the New Year.

I'll just put steel weights on the frame.

    Thanks much for the response.

    Hi Dick:
Good advice: I did and may have found a local shop that will try it... for $35.00.
    Thank you.

For frames (small) powder coating can be done yourself on the cheap, maybe only 10 jobs to break even.

I just bought a powder coating system from Harbor Freight but haven't tried it yet. Fortunately, there are a bunch of broken frames upon which to experiment. I haven't yet figured out the (cheap) way to provide the low pressurized air to feed the sprayer.

Harbor Freight also has: Low pressure Sprayer. Small Cheap air compressor for Air Brush (also quiet/small enough to use in the office. Also recommend Air Eraser from Harbor Freight when things don't turn out just right. Note if you use the Air Eraser use goggles, the Aluminum Oxide goes everywhere including your eyes.

Talked to Columbia Coatings this AM, they said to use an air tank with a regulator on it. Would need to fill the tank from time to time, but there is a station across the street.

I built frame tech for Optical Shops of Aspen in the mid eighties for wholesale frame painting. (uuugghh im old) the most expensive parts are sand blaster (enclosed) and airbrush. Drying cabinet can be a steel locker with wires for hanging and bulbs for heat. proper masking can be an art in itself. Double textures triple textures can be done with cellophane, toothpicks etc. AHHH the eighties boutiques were great not much real high end we had to create it to be different. leather wraps, custom paints and the ledging tool to do a -5.00 FT-35 in the porsche 5621 we would have to talk the guy out of glass because of rimless. ok well maybe i dont miss it.

Durn burn it! I had managed to erase all memories of that Porsche outta my mind!
We used to have guy come in and always wanted his lenses put into one of those. He was a cop and I guessed he wanted to look like that cop in the commercials. "You're in a heap o' trouble!"
