The answer you seek lies in 1 of 2 choices: no. 1) that Fezz / Johns is in intense negotiations with the big E and will soon be a partner lab. or no.2) that the negotiations are over and Fezz / Johns are now on a beach sipping Pina Colada's and getting ready to ring in the new year with a huge online launch.

Or that the lack of substantive input from the newer members of the board have made some of the more popular 'old guard' fed up with being the sole 'contributors' of the board. You can only give away so much of your competitive edge, eventually you want some reciprocity, or payment.

It is hard I know, I'm a young newb in the profession. Its hard to feel like I have something to add to a discussion amongst people that far far outweigh my experience. But, this is a discussion forum, the key to its function is that everybody participating finds a way to contribute. I for one will be making an effort to chime in more often, even if its to ask/expand a question.

I've learned a lot from Optiboard, and stuff I down right needed to know. I'd even venture to say I make more money now than a year ago because of facts, opinion, and attitudes I've glommed from Optiboard. Its hard to quantify the confidence one can gain from reading posts by people who are basically the stars of our profession. If we want these two big contributors back, I think its gonna be up to us newer folk to give them a good reason to stay and share with us.

I have always felt that this site, built from scratch over the past 15 years, is what we've made it to be. Optiboard is the sum of all it's members....their likes, their dislikes, and their foibles. We've tried to mold it into a place of goodwill, where folks with the same industry in common can come to share knowledge, learn, and make contact with peers. When discussion's turn into bickering, arguments, or ego strutting, many people shy away. Some long time members just leave for a vacation from this to return at a later date or perhaps never.

Optiboard is a place where friendships are forged.Basically that was the reasoning behind the subject of this thread. We should keep that in mind when we post here. You are talking to your friends. Be courteous, particularly when you disagree. Don't let your ego convince you that you are better, or more knowledgeable than those with whom you communicate. ( It always comes through in a post and is easy to recognize)

Courtesy is contagious....let's try to infect everyone.!:)

I don't have the answers, but I hope that the residents of Optiboard can start acting like civil adults and either come to an agreement over the direction of Opticianary and act to achieve that or learn to agree to disagree. Maybe then just maybe they will be tempted to rejoin the conversation.

You are close!! Johns is in Fort Myers FL on vacation with his lovely family. He had heard rumors that he was missing in action and made an appearance at my store yesterday. He is younger than I thought; It was great to meet the Optiboard legend in person and show him our stores.

I must say he is very impressive in his logical approach to the industry and it is no accident he has so many stores.

Happy Holidays to all with a better 2011 than 2010 and 2010 was pretty good personally and profesionally.
