    Christmas gifts to the office

I was just wondering how different offices distribute gifts that come in to the office at Christmas time? We get fruit baskets, popcorn tins, candy, cookies, etc, from various businesses we refer to( LASIK,retina specialists, ophthalmologists, etc) and our Dr/owner scoops them all up and takes them home and might bring back the leftovers after his wife( also Dr/ owner/partner) takes out what she wants. I realize its their business, but the we do alot around here, it seems it should be available to everyone in the office to enjoy. Just my little rant of the day,, Thanks,, Bill

Who is the Dr./owner, Ebenezer ?
Really a business 'leader' would give all the goodies and more to the staff that makes him profit. To me it just shows that money comes to easy to the business side in optical. Many other business business must be much more successful to be profitable. Those days my come ya know.
    Sorry to hear your story.
How much harder and happier do you think you would work if you where booming about getting to split a few hundred dollars of Christmas goodies once a year? Think you would bring in an extra 50K in Profit? (for the owner)
My rant. have a Merry Christmas!

Yes, our CEO does the same thing. Worse for us, because the CEO is not the owner.

But, whatever. Reminds me of the show Home Improvement and how Tim Taylor did Tool Time. Learn from their mistakes.

Anyways, yesterday was Christmas Sweater Day in our office and we did our Christmas Sweater Football game in the snow. I then dressed up as Santa and gave out presents.

We had a party with a gift exchange and the reps brought all manner of goodies. Dr. and his wife are always on a diet so we all made out like bandits on the cookies and candies. Thank God I have a gym membership! Lol!

I agree with blinkvelo, you need to be appreciated. It's too bad they are so selfish and stingy.

I used to work for an OD like that and it would burn my butt when he would take a whole platter of goodies home for HIS family. The office I work at now, all that stuff is put out for EVERYONE. In fact, all the frame and lens reps that come in with goodies, I put them in the back and that goes for lens vouchers. A lot of the girls wear glasses here so it gives them and opportunity to share as well.

We got our gifts from our bosses today. Since we are government, it comes out of their pockets and not the taxpayers. So we know that we will never get bonuses or something huge. I am fine with that.

This year, we got a $10 gift card from Chapters. I would be more than happy if it was not $20 last year. I know I am looking a gift horse in the mouth, but I do find it insulting. Considering that our four Senior Managers make a combined over $700,000, I think that they only spent $55 each on us is sad. Considering that I already gave over $100 in gifts to all staff, myself.

Heck, two weeks ago, for my students, I took them out for beer and apps after their exams. I paid for all 33 of them.

But again, it is not the gift. It is that they purposely cut back on us. I guess I am being selfish, but I would rather have no gift at all than this. Actually, I would rather they just give to charity. That would be way more meaningful to me.

I have a friend who works for a dentist and he gives all the employees a check for $2000 every. single. year. for Christmas. I agree about the charity gift. I think a $20.00 gift card is a slap in the face to employees who bust their butt year round to make your office what it is. I know that sounds selfish and I am not a selfish person, however, having your hard work recognized is a little nice as well. For-Life, as you said, I would rather not get anything or you can take that whole whopping $10.00 gift card to charity for someone who may not be able to afford things.

I usually keep the box of cookies my surgeon brings but distribute everything else to the staff.

    That. Is effing. Ridiculous.

I am so grateful for the fantastic practice where I work. We all share the Christmas goodies and receive a modest bonus every year. I use it to buy myself something slightly extravagant that I wouldn't otherwise have been able to budget; this year I'm looking at maybe getting a keyboard amp.

Oh, for goodness sakes. Is he a big guy with a major appetite? Explain the facts instead of fuming....tell him he's being a selfish loser boss and that some little form of appreciation would be nice. Better yet, have your own party and exclude him from it! Tell him since he took the goodies you all figured he wouldn't mind if you had your own party with the Petty Cash!

u kiddin'?? In my place the staff rips open the goodies before a doctor even gets near them. I rarely even get a piece, yet alone take it home. But I'm of the opinion that stuff that comes to the office stays in the office.
