    College Registrar FIRED

College of Optometrists of Ontario officially stated that it not only terminated the registrar, Dr. Murray Turnour, but states that it was "not only in the best interest of the college, but in the best interests of the profession." Perhaps a new era has finally begun.

Great, progressive news for Ontario OD's.

There is some speculation that it has something to do with the council elections being screwed up several times now.

"There is some speculation that it has something to do with the council elections being screwed up several times now."
Although it did seem that there was an attempt to rig the election, and as the timing would suggest it, the election "irregularities" were NOT the root cause.

The truth will come out - although the letter was removed from the college website shortly after it was posted online.

Interesting that the College of Opticians of Ontario also is rerunning two elections do to some "procedural errors" .Does it seem somewhat coincidental that both Colleges can't be trusted to run an election and it occurs about the same time ? Funny odds .

There is no connection between the two situations.

The re-election votes are in and this time the younger, progressive candidate won cleanly; the ballots were handled by an outside accounting firm. Makes you wonder what did the registrar do to be fired?

Of note, it was a landslide victory this time around. The young progressive candidate received more votes than the combined total for the other three candidates - all of whom graduated prior to 1978. The original "winner" from the original (rigged?) election wasn't even close this time. No need for a re-count.

It was NOT confidential, it is addressed to all Ontario OD's as if we were a copy of a letter to be received by mail. The president's letter about Dr. Turnour's termination was posted on the COO website, but removed after a few days, like the college council briefs. There has been no explanation for this letter's removal, or if it was a mistake for the president of the college to have posted it on the college website. Many people have a downloaded copy of it, or have at least read it.

If it was truly confidential information, the letter would have been boldly labelled "CONFIDENTIAL" near the top.

If you wish to argue the point, then I can close this thread and forbid any further discussion of this topic. Otherwise you can respect this decision and the fact that I do not want to be sued for your indiscretions.

That is B.S. There is no legal requirement to label confidential information like that.

No need to make an issue out of it. Protocol for the college is to label or stamp all confidential correspondence "CONFIDENTIAL."

Somebody seems to be using a laywer for damage control. Close the thread if you want - it's done anyway. If you need a copy of the letter for any lawsuit, PM me.
