    Percepta Replacement?

Ever since they discontinued Percepta, we get a couple pts a month that have been wearing Percepta for 10 years and cannot get used to anything new...I know Percepta had a long channel, so I usually try lenses like the old Zeiss Gradal...but I'm still having trouble. Has anyone else had this issue and been able to resolve it?

    Thanks!

Other than the channel length, why would you want another 'old' design? I wonder if you wouldn't have more success with a 'new' design. You have to bring the old dude up to standard sooner or later... :). You can get variable length corridors in many freeform lenses; have you also considered/tried those?

Geez, I quit using the Percepta because I had more no-adapts with it than anything except the Compact Ultra.
I went with the Image and have not regretted it.

Percepta was a bold idea. But it ultimatly was a failure on many levels.

But with that being said i think Ghost has your answer

Sola recommends using the SolaMax as a replacement.....

But I agree, why not go with a better, more recent design?
There are rules. Knowing those are easy. There are exceptions to the rules. Knowing those are easy. Knowing when to use them is slightly less easy. There are exceptions to the exceptions. Knowing those is a little more tricky, and know when to use those is even more so. Our industry is FULL of all of the above.

I always start with a more recent design, thinking it will work better, but after that fails, I try to fall back to something that was designed around the same time as Percepta....my thought process is that lens designers are usually trying to match or beat each others designs. Usually the people that get "stuck" in the Percepta were men who wore the lens at a seg ht between 25-30. They still have that seg ht..(sometimes the same old double bar frame) and can't get used to the newer designs. I think the free-form Idea is a good one, I talked to my free-form lab today and he suggested a couple lenses with longer channels for me to try. I'm suprised I'm the only one running into this problem. I don't think Sola-Max is the answer. Another one that I've had trouble getting people out of is the XL-Gold. I know when they design progressives that corridor length is a factor in how wide they can make the usable field...so I assumed that was the problem.

    Thanks,
    Ed

Well, they are going to recommend a Sola lens but the design of the SolaMax is very different then Percepta. Both Percepta and Image have great distance areas where SolaMax doesn't. It has a good near area. I think Image is closer.
