Does anyone know if Frames Data has any competition. Is there another company that keeps a database of frame parameters and pricing?

Years ago, one of the initial features of my optical practice management system was that licensees were provided with a frames data base, a spectacle lens database and a contact lens database when they purchased the application. The database was updated monthly. It took on the average about fifty man hours a month to maintain these databases.
Of course, the end users were thrilled as it freed them from the task of maintaining currency of what was available on the market. There was only one problem. They didn’t want to pay for the service.
In addition to the cost of paying a salary I found that working with the manufacturers, wholesalers or importers quite problematic. Some were extremely cooperative and others couldn’t be bothered. All this was quite a while ago when most manufacturers were located right here in the USA. Today it would be a daunting if not impossible task.
Besides, everyone in the optical business is cheap, really cheap.
Your best source of frames and lens data is right at your fingertips; the internet.
Unfortunately ,the internet does not usually have the B or ED measurments... frames data is the only source I know of...Originally Posted by rbaker;366206[FONT=Comic Sans MS

Are you working with nincompoops that cant measure ED and B!?!?!?
Lenny - You have hit the nail squarely on the head and I wish that I was the one who brought up the term Nincompoops. Beautiful!
Perhaps this designation “Society of Nincompoop Opticians” will provide a counterpoint to the proposed Society of Advanced Opticians.
In the spirit of political correctness, fairness and brotherly love we will all be united as one.
Allow me to post something from Wikipedia which just about summarizes the level of ophthalmic optics competence that you so eloquently cite:
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
A nincompoop is a mentally deficient person, or someone who acts in a self-defeating or significantly counterproductive way. More humorous synonyms of the term include addlehead, blockhead, bonehead, deadhead, dimwit, dodo, dope, dummy, dunderhead, ninny, nitwit, numbskull, stupidhead, thickhead, and twit, among many others.
Archaically the word mome has also been used. The synonymous terms moron, imbecile, and cretin have all gained specialized meanings in modern times. An idiot is said to be idiotic, and to suffer from idiocy. A dunce is an idiot who is specifically incapable of learning. An idiot differs from a fool (who is unwise) and an ignoramus (who is uneducated/ an ignorant), neither of which refer to someone with low intelligence.

Hi All, I am also seeking a FRAME FACTS or FRAMES DATA price book from the mid 1990's (any year and any quarter). I am willing to pay $150 for it. Please send email toDrRobert@eyeworksgroup.com if you can help. Thank you!
