    Eyelash clearance

This may seem like an odd question, but is there a rule of thumb about how flat the rear curve of an Rx can be before it begins to interfere with the wearer's eyelashes? For example, a plano back would probably be unacceptable. But is 2d enough? Thanks in advance.

I'm not really aware of a rull of thumb. There are so many variables: facial features of patient, length of lashes, pantascopic angle and parabolic curve of frame, etc. I personally have two frames with a minus four backside lens that I can not wear with mascara in spite of significant wrap. (I have long lashes and a small bridge.) Bad frames choices!

No, but its going to be more of a problem for the females, we have had requests for "Can this be on a higher base" so there is plenty of eyelash clearance.
Seem to remember another post about this, and an explnation of why you should not increase the base just ot accomadate long lashes..

If It's a metal frame, try pulling the nose pad arms towards the face to bring the front forward and for plastic, see if the patient would accept nose pads added to the frame.

Thanks for your input everyone. I talked to an OD friend of mind and he said that -3.00 is a reasonably safe lower limit.
