Lenny,
We had a Humphrey (sp?) autorefractor that took up a whole examining room. It not only allowed the patient to dial in their best manifest but also printed out PD and refractive info. It was really pretty accurate (usually within +.25 of a Doc refraction). The problem is it took up a lot of space and our doctors sold it to put in another exam room. Go figure.

I just realized that there are some autorefractors that give you a visual accurity with a given RX!
Must be very cool!?
Anybody using them?
What % of the patients are corrected to 20/20?
I installed a Humphrey at one of the offices I worked at up in Pennsylvania. The doctors hated it, because they couldn't improve on the refraction in most cases (made them feel "obsolete," I guess). The tech could basically refract them right on the auto-ref, including add powers!
We have also been happy with our Marco (old unit, still works great). We recently purchased a unit from Rodenstock (I forget who manufacturers them, maybe Zeiss?). It has the annoying habit of leaning towards the plus side (which gets progressively worse as the correction increases).

Lenny,
There is an article in the latest Vision Care Product News (March 2002, Volume 2, Issue 2) by the Optiboard's own Bev Heishman titled "What's Up With Autorefractors?". You may want to check it out.
Here's the link:

The article is verrrry nice!
But nothing about visual accurity results.
I amalso intrested in the best Autorefractor purchase for the amount of money spent!
