Post Sometimes, you have to go back to get ahead

We have had quite a few discussion about the importance of formal education in securing the future of Opticianry. Looking at our poll, most people support Formal Education becomming a prerequisite to becomming an Optician. I have also realized that many folks may not have the funds to enroll in a college associates program.

Does anyone have data on finanancial assistance resources for folks interested in persuing formal education?

For those who work at our corporations, associates may not know you offer your employees financial aid towards accredited education programs in their field so don't be afraid to post that info here.

Thank you in advance for any information you folks can offer.

    :)
    Jo

Most, if not all, colleges and universities have financial assistance counselors available for their students. That would be the first step, I think...

    Jo,
My comapany pays with a limit depending on the state for opticianry related instruction to obtain a state optician's license. As well, we reimburse 80% on the charges incurred for CE credits to maintain licenses/certifications.

    Cindy,

Would that include courses at local colleges? Middlesex, for example, offers a Contact Lens course that many take prior to the Contact Lens exam.
