Wave New fitting method for progressives ??

I have heard something interesting today. A new fitting method for progressives. It's based on some of the freeform lenses out there. Some have a 2.5mm inset which is wider than 1.5 or 2 standard. Most opticians take a distance pd and subtract either 1.5 or 2 from the numbers for near. That's they way it's always been done.

Well, some are taking the near PD and then adding 2.5 for the distance. They want the near EXACT and feel the distance is clearly more forgiving.

    Anyone familiar with this?

I have never heard of that, but would be interested to hear from the OD's and folks with much greater knowledge of the eye than myself. The real question is whiich method is more consistent. I doubt the latter as the ability to converge must be different between a -5.00 with a +1.00 add vs +3.00 with a +2.75 add.
I look forward to hearing back from our experts.

Old news, and not valid without the DV Rx in place or calculated with prism effects of same factored in.

I could be wrong, but weren't we taught to fit the older Varilux designs like that?
