    Wave EMR's

I am shopping around for EMR software. Any experiences with this? Good? Bad? How much did/does it cost? What are it's limitations? Advantages? Which EMR's should I NOT consider and why? Anything feedback/advice be appreciated.

I have had great success with MyVisionExpress in an office, didn't like the officemate and worked with a proprietary system at an OMDs office that was way way way behind the times and way way way way way more costly than it should have been. I have heard of offices that use outlook as their contact management software and then just use Access databases as their EMR but it again suffers from lack of features and is too time consuming to set up and maintain and requires expert knowledge of the microsoft software.

I would personally go MVE since it is the easiest to use and they keep it updated regularly. They also guarentee they will meet the certification requirements for the upcoming HITECH Act so it's a sound investment in an EHR system.

That's my two cents, I don't work for the company and even had a few hiccups with teh companies software when using it but the company for the most part not only dealt with all issues but fixed it to satisfaction. The programmers even created and update within a few days after a reported bug to fix a problem we were having. To me it's very important that a company stands behind their software performance.

I think the EMR that you might want would also depend upon the kinds of patients that you will see. If you do not bill medical insurance or Medicare (below threshold of $25,000 billed ) then a certified EHR is not relevant because you won't be able to apply for the stimulus money. If you bill above $25,000 to Medicare, then you're in the running.

Next, you have to see if you do a lot of medical or do mainly routine examinations for glasses and contacts.

The EMR market is divided into two camps. One camp isn't designed for those who want the stimulus dollars and the other are designed for the stimulus dollars.

    How do you practice?

    Regards,
    An EMR Expert

I like that, I still think that it shoudl conform to the yet to be determined standard or at least make and attempt to be. If a standard is to be set then you definately want to be within the standards. I do agree that you need to determine how much medical billing you do, it seems that most software is good in either of the two areas the EHR or the Retail side. Until recently I would say focus your search to the software that handled the retail side of your business better since this was traditionally the larger profit center in an optical, however with the ability to bill medically and that segment of your practice gaining more ground faster the tide has definately turned for many practices where the medical billing and EHR should be the focus of your software.

I don't know if anyone is ever really going to be able to offer you advice to fit your practice like a glove without knowing your business, but my recommendation is still to check out MVE as they seem to be the best on the retail side of the business.

I have used both MVE and GOAL software. If all you need is simple billing, use GOAL. It is reliable and easy to use. If you need the EMR then GOAL is not for you but so far I would have difficulty recommending MVE to anybody.
