    1.67 polarized on indefinite backorder....

This is what I've been told by several of our labs. What is going on?

Just spoke with Younger, the only BC's they have in stock are .50 and 6, the rest are on BO.

Yep, Younger, KBCo, and SLC are all out or very low on 1.67 Polarized. I've still got a decent stock on my shelf in most base curves, mostly because I always place a VERY large Polarized order for us in March.

Part of the problem is that 1.67 Polarized are being pushed more this year than usual. The other problem is that "someone" has apparently bought A LOT of polarized lenses, including managing to buy Essilor's ENTIRE polarized progressive stock about a month ago (I know, you're going to think "there's no way Essilor of all companies would let that happen, they must have some on backup." No, someone goofed and let it ALL go....) They've got some back into stock now, but I'll willing to bet they halted production of other lenses to fill the void quicker.

Also, at least on KBCo's end, they forcasted production for a sales increase of 9%, and they're currently up 15%....so yeah, they're also a little behind.
There are rules. Knowing those are easy. There are exceptions to the rules. Knowing those are easy. Knowing when to use them is slightly less easy. There are exceptions to the exceptions. Knowing those is a little more tricky, and know when to use those is even more so. Our industry is FULL of all of the above.

I hear yah! Ive been using a lot more 1.67 polarized SV and PAL this year. I just figured that manufactures scaled down production due to the economic climate and are caught with their pants down. We're playing with Hoya more these days but I was very disappointed to find that they have very little available in polar' brown ... tsk tsk tsk ....

The other problem is that Essilor is consolidating their Polarized manufacturing IN THE MIDDLE of the busiest time of year. I have been seeing a lot of defective Polar blanks come through which means manufactures are dipping to the bottom of the barrel to get lenses out. Plus, people are buying sunwear again.

DOCinCHINA should take the blame! He's got all the state-of-art equipment, huge facility and army but he is too lazy to make 1.67 polarized lens for us!

Actually, the pinyin of 我不理你 is bu li ni which is typically said with humor. My daughter loves saying that if we tell her something she does not want to hear or is just joking around.

Jerry Huang is mi amigo and has mentioned this product to me weekly for months. Of course I do listen to what Jerry has to say (if not act upon it immediately).

Obviously there is a weakness in the 1.67 Polar supply chain somewhere. Real or percieved, we should all use this as an example of what can happen when there is a near monopoly on the production of one specific product. Considering how expensive 1.67 Polar stuff is I can't imagine a price increase now with the economy the way it is. Supply and demand can do weird things.

And Giorgio, is that the actual translation or were you making a statement that you didn't care what it translated to??
