CuriousCat, .....I actually do........................unless there is a discussion where somebody looks for a solution to a problem and I can help solve or cure it, I will give it a plug to my direction.

There is actually one there right now, posted June 11 that has not faded away yet. I apologize if I offended you.

    Good Afternoon my fellow Optii

I am actually new to the "technical" side of optics. I am just now learning how to appropriately fit progressives styles according to lense depth. I just would like to know what are the minimum seg's for the Comfort, Comfort Enhanced, and the Comfort Short. Please excuse my ignorance in the area but we all to learn at some point. Thanks.

    WELCOME TO OPTIBOARD!

Here is a site of a fellow Optiboarder, TLG. This gives you all of the minimum heights, materials, powers, etc of all the major progressives! It is a great resource that should help you immensely!

    OptiNovice86,
Hi Neighbor, Welcome to Optiboard. You're not too far from me. Hope our paths cross soon. Let me know when you will be at any optical meetings in Georgia (like the upcoming SouthEastern Opticians Conference) and we can meet each other. As a matter of fact you would also get to meet Dr. Warren McDonald, gmc and Tim Fortner from Transitions and Jackie O'Keefe who are all members of this board.

    Fezz,

Thanks for the link! That site was definitely beneficial! Before I made the transition into the private practice, I was working for a ubiquitous optical chain (which I don't believe there is any need to mention that companies name) and all we were given was a limited amount of information in order to make a sale. Instead of knowing the specifics of each PAL, we were taught just to generalize the measurements based of frame size as opposed to actual need of the patient. smh

    Diane,

Hi! I most definitely will! Like I explaining to Fezz, I am totally green when it comes to the technical side of optics, I want to learn as much as I can. Likewise aswell, I do hope that our paths cross in the future and I am most certain that they will! I have heard alot about Tim Horton also.

    Another Question:

I know that Hi Index lenses are primarily used for patients with a high(-)RX. As stated before, at the chain, we were told to tell our patients that Hi Index lenses were the equivalent to an HD type quality of acuity. Personally, I have a high(-)RX so cosmetically, I can tell the difference. When there is a patient who has a moderate (-)RX, for example, -2.25x-1.75x120, would you suggest me fitting them into a 1.74 lense? or would any other materials work just as fine?

Once again, forgive my ignorance on the subject.

Yes, this lens is only moderate power at one meridian.......and yes, "any other material would work just as fine" in certain applications, and frames. Remember that optics, weight, lens usage, treatments that are desired, safety, are as important as cosmetic appearance. Oh, yes, I forgot budget, and lifespan of lens desired, and insurance interferences, as" lens decision makers ".

OptiNovice86......please get some good optical course texts, or books, and bury your nose in them!

I am on a personal mission to make Optiboard a more welcoming place for newbies. We have failed at this in the past!

I am so glad that Optinovice found us and is asking for help!

Please reach out, offer any help, materials, references, etc to encourage educational growth and support! I have sent a pm with some educational links and my personal contact info if Optinovice needs help. I am searching for a used copy of the Blue Bible to send to Optinovice if he/she wants*. Anybody care to help with that?

I encourage others to do the same and lets try to change the climate on this board!

    Step up.....don't step aside!

*I just found 4 of them on Abebooks.com for cheap! I snatched them up. Are there any other suggested sites that may have these on the cheap that those of us interested in making a difference may find these for modest prices? Anybody want to throw me a few bucks to help in my philanthropy PLEASE do!

Or post a good question like that in an optical forum. That's a great way to build your knowledge base! Just don't believe everything you read right off the bat (remember, some of us might also be a little misinformed).

I know I'm not a high poster on here but I agree with Fezz, it seems like there's a large number of optical specialists with their noses up so high in the air it makes the rest of us want to raise your seg.

What is this blue bible you speak of? Is it the ABO and/or NCLE study manuals? I don't remember those being blue (but then again, I slightly recall studying from a large stack of xerox copies, so my office might have just pirated that)

    I scored a few!

Hopefully we can get enough newbies to get the courage up to start posting! We can then get the feel for the need and I can send a few more out! Hopefully I'll run out of what I got and will need to hit you up for more!

    Thanks!
