    Yowsah!!

    I put in an IBM X25 SSD in my computer to see just how much faster they are.
    The results are impressive! Using HDtune, the transfer rate on my new 640Gb WD drive with 32 MB cache was 69.4 Mb/s average with an access time of 14.3 ms. The SSD turned in 217.3 Mb/S transfer and a miniscule 0.1 ms access time.
    Windows 7 boots up in about 15 seconds after BIOS.

    Definitely an improvement!:bbg::bbg:

    Impressive! :D I had held off on this for some time as the SSD devices were failing after a significantly lower number of writes than compared to traditional HDDs, but that is expected to go away soon enough w/ the improving technology if not already. HDDs are really becoming antiquated. SSD's main advantage is since there are no moving parts, it consumes less power which is great for notebooks, is much less susceptible to mechanical failure & the data access is wicked faster since there are no spinning platters or moving reader arm/head.

    Coupla questions:
    1) Is the new 640GB WD drive the SSD device?
    2) Is the Win7 OS 32- or 64-bit?
    3) How much RAM do you have?

    The 640 Gb is a standard HDD, the SSD is an Intel X25 80 Gb, which has my OS on it.

    [QUOTE=Storm Aiden;379409]I've contacted several sites asking about the origin of this word -

    Yowsah? As far as I know it originated in the deep south on the plantations. It's how the slaves pronounced "Yes Sir" to their masters. For some reason it has become more of a "wow" over the years. Maybe it was originally "You Sir" I dunno.
