EyeXam - Get ready to bust your iPhone out for this nifty app :P

Convenient tool? Or a way to excuse oneself from an actual examination?

    I suspect the latter

A better app is the one provided by 1800 Contacts...its a CL calender, and when you're due...directs you to the "nearest VISION CENTER". And I don't know anyone in private practice who has a "VISION CENTER".

I think we all knew this was coming.

@Lenny: what does this have to do with Vision Source?
It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.

    but

But... how does this replace an eye exam? You cant get a valid prescription from using it, can you?

So whats the point of it? Is it just for people who want to know their Rx or if they're colorblind just to satisfy their own curiosity?

I dont see a point to it...

It's like WebMD, yes it's nice to look up your symptoms when you're sick and satisfy your curiosity you're not dying of a deadly disease. But in reality, you'll still need to go see an actual Doctor for some true answers or an Rx.

You're exactly right, it does not replace an eye exam. The app itself gives you an approximation of your VA and goes through some of the red-green deficiency screens and it has an amsler chart and some other pseudo-tests.

It doesn't spit out an rx for you though (if it did, it'd probably include an app to order your glasses online and an app to compliment the specs with some CL's as well )

Now if only we had an app called PD-denier, where you can request a PD and get told a big fat stinking "NO".

... actually, on second thought, that seems to be one of our only jobs left to do nowadays
