Children's Sports Goggle for high Myope...thoughts please

    Hi,

I have an 8 year old girl who needs sports goggles for soccer. My dilemma is her high myopic script.

    OD. -4.50-2.00x100
    OS. -9.00-1.50x085

She is currently wearing 1.74 in her regular glasses and recently have been told by her coach she cannot play unless she gets sports goggles.

I can always surface a pair of poly lenses for her but they will look hideous (13mm in the OS). At her age I'm not comfortable fitting her with soft lenses.

    Thoughts please?

Adidas produces a range of sport frames or you will find that the shields with the inserts behind work beautifully for a minus rx. Stick to the ones that use the oval or round insert and choose the shield from there. The colors of the frames will even be able to match her uniform colors!

Rudy Project made me a -12.00 D lens in an insert for one patient, age 12-ish. Even with a flat bridge and high minus, I was able to adjust the bridge so he has had no problems with the insert hitting his eye lashes. Also, they just came out with some smaller sized frames, like the Kylix and one other one. I like how flexible the ImpactX lenses are, too. The lab mentioned that they can take a bullet, and I tried it out (It stopped a .22 at point blank, but it let a .45 through). Moral of the story: don't try to stop bullets with your eye. Second moral of the story: they should be able to withstand a soccer ball. Hope this helps!

Why not? Daily disposable for sports use only, with the parents ensuring she takes care of them. I've fit many under-10 specifically for sports and it works just fine. Just average the cyl to best sphere.

Go for a toric soft lens. I disagree with spherical equivalent. You have against the rule cyl, which needs to be corrected. You should have no problem with an 8 year old, as long as the child has good hygeine.

The contact lens would be a great choice, especially to enhance peripheral vision. Additionally that -4.50 to -9.00 anisometropia would be improved as well.

Just make the dang lenses and roll and polish them. Who cares how they look? If you do, put a flash mirror on front without tint.
