    Redhot Jumper Canadian legislative idiocy

"The legislation is intended to address complaints from patients who suggest that their optometrists or opticians will not provide them copies of their prescriptions to legally purchase contact lenses online"

WOW, GO-O-O-OLLY, GEE WHIZ! INTELLIGENT WORDS HAVE NO PLACE TO DESCRIBE THIS IDIOCY! SHOWS WE DON'T HAVE THE MARKET CORNERED ON LEGISLATIVE CRETINISM.
    :hammer:

Time to hitch up old Betsy and sell off the back of the wagon, let them pick their own !
Those geniuses, brainwashed (took no effort) by some internet co's instead of protecting the public by requiring CL rx be released and VERIFIED, escalated their protection to new heights..... The DIY EYEGLASS & DIY CL Rx!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! People (not patients anymore) can now consult with the optiwhiz online & come up with their very own homemade numbers (not an Rx anymore, recipe maybe)
Optiboard is going to be inundated by these homebrewed "knowledge seekers" Batten down the hatches, I for one will refuse to aid & abet. Time to get serious about keeping these folks off .

It's easy to give advice, so here's my opinion for what it's worth. Licensed or not, all of you must immediately raise your professional fees across the board. It might be the only thing you get paid for. You are now in the business of selling Rx's & PD's Start billing by the hour as do the plumbers, electricians, car mechanics, and lawyers. Do NOT give away anything, not even an adjustment if it's not your frame. Post or hand the person a menu of services/prices. Posting price for services will make those patients who have glasses made by you start to appreciate all the freebies you give them when you take care of them in the time honored tradition, which you should continue to do.
The same applies for CL fits & refits. Time is money, CL troubleshooting & rehab is VERY time consuming.....charge appropriately. You won't miss the paltry amount you make selling the boxes. You WILL see more people with all sorts of interesting self inflicted issues, become an expert. RGP patients tend to be more loyal, especially if you don't fit generic designs, use proprietary lab designs, specify them on the Rx, with the warning printed that you will not be responsible for alterations in design or material. Since some of your patients will turn into DIYers, DOCUMENT, DOCUMENT, DOCUMENT! MAKE THEM SIGN A WARNING CONCERNING LAPSES IN YRLY FOLLOW UPS, SOLUTION CHOICES, AND MOST OF ALL UNSUPERVISED LENS CHANGES.
In all this craziness, WHERE ARE THE OPHTHALMOLOGISTS???? Do they not realize how many glasses checks they're going to have to deal with? What are they going to do with all those MD redos, with ****** pts having to get new gls from Coastal for N/C? Oh, I could just keep going as I see the ripples this is going to cause. Unfortunately the ones who will be physically hurt are the CL dummies who will have untold corneal complications, which should not be kept quiet. It's bad enough that the general public views cls as benign as socks, but not to encourage them into some righteous anger when they pay the price for this benign neglect by their legislators would be compounding the stupidity. Victims make the best crusaders.

OptiBoard has been a quite front since the new BC rule came into force May 1. And now this. I have beeen posting for a while many time that change is coming and to prepare for it.
Even your favorite lab could now do retail sales without any problems.

Charging for services seem the only way to go. The on-line buyers will need the optician even more than his regular clients. From adjustments to repairs, which are all service related.
Furthermore I believe that other provinces will follow with easing up the rules concerning the optical retail trade.
