What hardware is being used in your office?

I am doing some research as the types of hardware and peripherals being used by those who have optical/practice management systems in use.

Do you buy from the same vendor, are you buying at privately or through an associated supplier for the software manufacturer like
Dell, HP, Compaq? Any one using Smart Terminals? Any Mac users? How about support?

How about bar code readers, interfacing opthalmic equipment with software systems, scanners, etc. and what do you use?

    Your input appreciated.:)

    Thumbs up Bev

We have a network system in our office supplied by a company called GBS. It is windows 98 based system they supplied the 16 computers (Celeron 333 MHZ) non specific brand. We have a digital computerized retinal camera, a computerized visual field, a Welsh Allyn hand held autorefractor and IR printer, two topographers ( one is EyeSys and the other is EyeMap). One hand held Alcon keratometer. Two notebook computers 700 MGHZ that tie into the internet via phone modem and two desktop computers ( 1 is a 133 MGHZ Compaq Presario and the other is not a name brand but is 133 MGHZ).

    I don't think I missed anything.

    Bev,

What hardware is being used in your office?
Let's see ... I used a hammer to hang a mirror up the other day. That is about the closest thing to optical hardware that we use. We have a PC in one of our offices but it is currently filling the role of fax machine/paper weight.

We looked into software but the price tag is a little bit too high for us right now. We just have a person who takes all of the insurance forms home and submits from there.

    Gees Jerry.

We also have GBS as our practice management system. Being familiar with a variety of others I am not impressed. I am currently persuing a POS system for my optical and cl department to tie into GBS at the financial aspect and patient info. The docs want medical records management within the year.

We have HP e business network with 24 terminals currently on line. We have our moments.

I like the paper files because I tend to write a ton of notes for some patients.

But boy, do I ever miss everything being on the computer. Nothing like having a bunch of papercuts and torn cuticles from searching through files then getting alcohol or acetone on your hands.

I wish we could change but we have so much invested in our network. We must have a problem at least twice a month. It took over a year to transfer records to this software (Pervasive).

Good luck, I wouldn't recommend GBS.
