    Confused Old Plastic "hingeless" Silhouette question!!

    Never have I ever ran into this type of "hingeless" hinge! Does anyone know how to tighten one of these things? I'm at a loss. A patient came in today with an older, but still in great condition, Silhouette frame, the flexible plastic type and she wants to get new lenses in them but only if I can get the temples to stop flopping around. I have no idea how to do this as there are no screws. There is a little metal wire but I was just wondering if anyone has come across this and if so can this be tightened? The frame model number is SPX 1093. Thanks!

    New bushings?

    Edited to add: Oh I know which one this is. Not sure what you do with it other than ask Silhouette or tell the customer that "floppy" does not mean "falling apart" yet.

    Has your practice glazed Silhouettes? If so it's the same process, just instead of using a 1.40mm drill bit you would use a 2.00mm drill bit. The coordinates I use are 3.25 for the first hole and 5.85 for the second hole. Of course you will need to get some SPX bushings.

    @D....N...:

    The process is as follows.....carefully remove the temple, and then using a round jaw plier, gently squeeze the metal loop to decrease the loop opening slightly. Before reinstalling the temple, a short burst of hot air concentrated on the temple hinge end usually tightens the vertical gap. Reinstall!

    Hmm, I'll have to try that. I usually just heat the hinge so it shrinks a bit and tightens up.
