My wife and I have this discussion more often than I care to remember. I think in primary (and a few secondary) colors, and she thinks in full spectrum. Hence she picks the room paint, and I provide the labor... without comment.

Tee hee. That's a lot of data. I thought it was working in Optical that I learned 13 different ways to describe "brown."
I really, really can't stand it when a patient holds up a frame and asks, "what color is this?" I want to scream, "Didn't you go to KINDERGARDEN???"
It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.

Girls were always taking the time to look for that Oh so special crayon color out of their new box of 164 Crayola colors. Us boys could always make due with that cheapie little box of ten colors(especially because it fit in your pocket)- an amount which was already too much for me to deal with some times. I use black, brown, green, lavender, pink, yellow and blue. From those you can mix a rainbow of color. The only special dyes I keep on the side are BPI's diamond dye 500/550 and 540. They are useful.
Oh, and don't forget to get those crayons out of your pocket before the clothes get washed! :shiner:

Sigh!... I remember when frame colors were all names, like venetian brown, greysmoke, demi-amber, briarwood, sandalwood, etc Oooops, I'm giving away my age!
what about frame colors like: auburn gold, rose gold, rose taupe, sky, lilac fields, rose floral tortoise....purple haze...shall we keep going?
I never understood "rose gold." Or "bakelite." :/
It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
Rose gold was a description of the gold plate/fill...yellow gold, white gold, or rose gold. The difference was a softer color against the skin. You will notice today that different golds have a different hue, and some of them are downright laquer uuggllllly!!!!
I think the color was created by adding copper? to the alloy...but I stand to be corrected. I remember rolled gold(RG), gold fill(GF) and pink gold and all the CARATS designations, drool.
Bakelite as a color was an opaque brown...no transparency, or translucency and matte surfaced.....a reference to the material Bakelite...ashtray material.
Today an easy way to spot a frame from China....color description return(instead of numbers)
like: Shenzen noon sky Cough, Cough..
