Labs have the ability to adjust the depth of the engravings of Auto 2's. Complain to them to see if they are willing to accommodate you. It's a fine line (pun intended) to make everyone happy.:D

Actually it depends on whether they are using a laser engraver or mechanical engraver. If it's a laser then they aren't lines but dots....

But it is hard to get it just right, since if it's too heavy, not only is it VERY obvious when looking at the glasses, but hard coatings will streak when they get to the engravings. If it's too light, you won't find them. I'm also forced to say that it is possible that they forgot to engrave them....

One tip I can give for finding them when they are too light or have been A/R'ed is to hold the lens so that you are looking almost parallel to the back surface. Even with A/R, the markings will pick up more of the refection and be easier to find. Also if you have a high myope in your office, have them look for them without their glasses/contacts on (works for me and I'm only a -6.75).

When we send out ANY progressive that no long has the original layout markings for whatever reason, we always either put the verification mask on the lens, or in the case of slicker A/R's, we at least dot where the progressive markings are. This maybe something else you want to ask of your lab.
There are rules. Knowing those are easy. There are exceptions to the rules. Knowing those are easy. Knowing when to use them is slightly less easy. There are exceptions to the exceptions. Knowing those is a little more tricky, and know when to use those is even more so. Our industry is FULL of all of the above.
