    Hourly Rate?

The thread about the craigslist ad offering $13.00 an hour and the comments made me think a little. I tend to think that this is happening all over, licensed or un-licensed state.

Vote your hourly rate, no incentives or spiffs, and I think that some will be surprised.

This is not to pry into your salary, just a very un-scientific poll, as no other factors such as location or experience are being shown.

There was a Craigslist ad here a few months ago. Seeking a 32-36 hour/week EXPERIENCED optician/technician/receptionist/insurance biller for $9.00/hour with no benefits or commission.
A lack of planning on your part DOES NOT constitute an emergency on mine!

There are some who would call themselves opticians who would be overpaid at $9.00 an hour. There are some opticians who would be underpaid at $30.00 an hour.
Can you tell the difference between the two?

Give me 5 minutes with each one and I can tell you the difference.

There have been a few that all I've needed is 5 minutes with their resume.
There are rules. Knowing those are easy. There are exceptions to the rules. Knowing those are easy. Knowing when to use them is slightly less easy. There are exceptions to the exceptions. Knowing those is a little more tricky, and know when to use those is even more so. Our industry is FULL of all of the above.

I think that if you really want an accurate read of the pay per hour you probably should include the "extras" though there is no easy way to do that. Say someone makes 14.00 per hour in an unliscensed state which for Michigan and with a few years experience is the going rate. If you take into account that this person has excellent healthcare benes paid in full by the employer and a monthly bonus based on sales then that bumps the pay to around 20.00 per hour in a good month and if you are making 14.00 per hour but you pay half the cost of your benes and get nothing but straight pay you drop down to about 11-12.00 per hour.

National Chain. We have both an OD most of the time and a OMD on the weekends. Corp wont allow to pay more.

What corp? C'mon, spill it, let me guess, it begins with wa..., oops, maybe lu... Our employees are our greatest assets.:hammer:

On another thread, we have a bunch of people trying to further the profession with better education. Then, once again, a major step back, and it's all undone in a heartbeat.

It's what it is, always about the $$$.
