You know what kind of bums me out, though?
Those lens maps can't be corrected for "as worn" technology. You place that sucker on the Rotlex table flat, and the intended design that incorporated 7 degrees of face-form and 10 degrees of pantoscopic is going to look a little crappy. It would be the same as tilting a non-POW lens.
We have to come to our senses and realize that this endeavor only works with older designs.
I have an alternative idea, however! More later.
Just spent some time talking to Pro Fit Optix. 1-866-996-7849

Interesting independent lab.
Rodenstock AT and SI are no more. The non digital lenses now are the Classic Life and Purelife.
I'm getting some info from them and will get them for mapping.
Harry C- look for an e mail to get your address to forward them and thanks for all you've done and are doing!
Tony- Harry is right that maps should be on a subscribed basis.
Almost Uncle, but the Classics are Life 2 (I think) and XS, while the Purelifes are digitally surfaced.

According to Pro Fit Classiclife and Purelife are not digital.
You're right Fester, my bad, Classic is standard mold, Purelife is digital mold, yes? To get freeform you have to go Multigressiv, or whatever they call it wherever you buy it, LOL!

We should see these as well. If it cost a few bucks or a yearly "members" fee I think it would help keep it as an ECP tool. If you have no motivation to profit from your labors the money could be used to help compensate Harry C as well as potentially expand the maps and get a greater variety of powers for comparison.
This could be a more open discussion if moved to the Pro's Forum imo.
Opps- I misread this to think it was Tony's comment (bonk). But the sentiment still applies.

just wondering about lensguru.com- is it designed for use by optical professionals or for customers? why the ads for eyeglasses on line? I sure don't want to buy my glasses on line, I'll make my own thank you, and I sure don't want my customers seeing that they can get varilux retail for less than I pay wholesale, and I really don't need the reminder that little stores like mine are doomed if online eyeglasses catch on. so whats up with that? who makes the money off the ads? who owns the sight?
just wondering.

Optical Professionals
why the ads for eyeglasses on line?
So it remains free for YOU to use
I sure don't want to buy my glasses on line
No one said you have to
and I sure don't want my customers seeing that they can get varilux retail for less than I pay wholesale
Sounds like something you should be talking to your Essilor rep about
I really don't need the reminder that little stores like mine are doomed if online eyeglasses catch on. so whats up with that?
Probably not your biggest threat
who makes the money off the ads?
I do. In fact I'm rakin' it in; this month I might make $50 - minus hosting costs and the many hours I'll spend updating data.
who owns the sight?
That'd be me too. I developed the site during a two year period in my free time (I'm a full time dispensing optician) and have had it online since April 2007. It's my 'gift' to the industry I've spent my whole life working in and hope that it will always remain free to use for ECPs. I have received tremendous support from the OptiBoard community and try my best to provide accurate and up to date information.
just wondering.
Please let me know if you have any more questions.

I think its a great tool, I did not mean to offend, I was just currious about where it came from (if it was a marketing tool for one of the big lens companies or somesuch) my bad. I am new to optiboard and was out of the loop.
can you explain how you make the maps? again I am out of the loop, and if its on the websight my bad again for not reading everything on the sight.
I kind of always assumed when e was showing me their lens compared to someone elses that they could draw the pretty colors anyway they wanted to.
It is nice to know that this is an independent source with no leanings toward any particular brand or company.
thankyou.

Harry C's mailbox is full.
Braheem- Can I forward my Rodenstock lenses to you? PM me with an address??
Could someone explain how to read the maps? I don't quite understand what I am looking at when I look at the cylinder maps.
On the plano +2.00 maps I know that the darkest blue is the area with the least distortion or astigmatism and the yellow and green areas are higher distortion. But how can I tell how wide the channel is? Do I look at the cylinder map, it seems to show the channel.

Of the maps I looked at the Shamir Creation seems to have the least distortion and the Truevision Ommi has the most.
