    Anglo-American Dictionary

As everybody knows, there are 2 different types of English.

Its hard enough with different accents so its best if we set up a mini dictionary, English Us - English

Here are a few words for ye Yanks to translate,

    Toilet,
    Tap,
    Pavement,
    Railway,
    Spud,
    Fag

Interesting, I always thought that Your sidewalk was our pavement.

Jo, If you ever come to Ireland and go around asking for a john or a johnny you could end up in the Slammer(jail) if you ask the wrong person

    Sean, correct:cheers:

Looking at a girl's fanny in the US could be considered an admiration. Looking at a girl's fanny in the UK could be considered worth a punch.

I could say you're all talking rubbish, but you'd probably trash that as garbage. Why have Autumn when you can just have a fall?

If I described someone as being a 'pain in the ***', british people would assume that I keep a donkey and that it has a sore behind. We would be more likely to say 'pain in the saddam' (sorry... I.. er... meant ****!).

Are we Brits alone in having multi syllabled swear word about the testicals? I can't remeber the last time I heard an American say ' B&llocks'!!?

Anyway, I've left an *** in the fanny of my automobile's trunk which I picked up while on vacation in a john.

It's cold out here because I've moved into a refridgerated lorry (sorry, truck (18 wheeler(artic))) for the entire weekend.

    Judy:

In Canada aboot (appears about 5 times a paragaph in converstation) is about.

You can tell the difference as car trunks are usually the boot.

In England a Saloon is a sedan. For those of you in England, in the U.S. A sedan is a 4 doored automobile with door posts. And a Saloon an establishment that has the serving of hard liquor as it's primary business.

A 4X4 in the US is a 'SUV', or 'truck'. I don't know what a British truck is called over there.

And one for Ian - a 'mickey' in the US is a tablet to spike a drink.
