Finally upgrading some equipment and looking for advice

I'll be in New York next weekend at VEE and one of the things that I'm going for is that I've finally gotten permission to upgrade our autorefractor and possibly our auto lensometer. Since it's been at least 10 years our office purchased our current equipment my manger asked me to make up a list of the companies we should look at and what we should be asking. I've made a list of the different feature and am comfortable with that. What I want to know is are some of these companies better know for their ease of use, their shelf life, and most importantly if something does go wrong, how good is their support department?

Humphry/Zeiss does not sell replacement parts to anyone except thier field techs.

A cmos battery replaced on my autorefractor requires a 2 month field trip from florida to calfornia. I am more then capable of doing the work myself but am not allowed to buy the part for my own piece of equipment.

You might be able to tell from my tone I'm not happy and will do everything possible to avoid being put in this situation again.
