    Adjusting Criss Nylon frames????

Can it be done??? I have a customer who brought in Apollo Criss frames - great looking frame btw, but the things have a memory, and cannot be adjusted?!?!/ Any tips, tricks hints? The manufacturere had no clue. Considering these frames were designed by an optometrist about 60 years ago, and they have huge government contracts, someone must have had this problem in the past. Any help would be fantastic. Thanks!

Heat it up, bend the temple, hold it in its bent position until it cools. Yeah, this is gonna hurt.

ive noticed that weve had to adjust the memory plastics and the line art charmants usually one to 2 more times after the initial adjustment becuase over the first few days they tend to flex back. Usually after that they hold fine tho!

Nylon frames used to be injection molded from Nylon GP (6/6) which has a heat deflection of 455F and a melting point of 491F. If you heat the material to between these two values it will retain a new shape upon cooling. Heating below the455F values will result in instability and possible creep, over time, to the frames original state.

You need a REALLY hot salt pan and a glass of REALLY cold water. These frames take a ton of heat (you probably can't blister it) and need most of it to bend 'em. The cold glass of water is to dip your blistered fingers in when done.

And be sure to tell them to store them overnight in a glass of water a couple of times a year.
