    Question Looking for a Book.

    Hello. I'm new to Optics, I'm learning how to dispense eye glasses and cut lenses in a private office and was recommended a book I can't seem to find anywhere. He was unable to remember the name of the book but the Author was Russ Stimpson. Anyone have any idea where I might find it? Banres and Noble, Amazon, and Google didn't return any useful results. Also aside from that is there anything that would be good to start reading for someone that has no background in this field at all to start reading? An Opticianry for Dummies? :p

    Welcome to Optiboard!

    You might get some more responses if you post this in the General Forum!

    The Stimson book is called, Ophthalmic Dispensing. It is out of print, but you can find copies if you search hard enough. I think that the System for Ophthalmic Dispensing is a better investment!

    I would recommend:
    SYSTEM FOR OPHTHALMIC DISPENSING, Brooks and Borish

    This is often called The Blue Bible of optics!

    Here is a great article by a really handsome, sophisticated, snappy dresser written for Eye Care Professional Magazine:

    Many fellow Optiboarders have written for the Open Optix Project. This is an ABO study Guide. Check it out at the Laramy-K website:

    You can find a whole bunch of free info over at:

    Good luck and post this over in the General Forum!

    You may want to check out the TOPS Manual by Mike DiSanto. Mike has passed away, and is missed by many.

    It can be purchased through various outlets, including his daughter.

    Ophthalmic Dispensing, Russell Stimson

    Type that into Amazon, you may find a few copies, I did.

    Again, I think that the System for Ophthalmic Dispensing, Brooks and Borish would be a better investment!

    Powells Book Store - in Portland Oregon has a huge collection of technical books. It is the largest used book store in the USA. It takes up one whole city block in downtown Portland. Great place to visit if you are ever in the area. It is so big, you have to stop by the desk and pick up a map of the various rooms/sections. I have managed to acquire many optical books (our industry, as well as multi-lens system books) over the years. Including 2 complete copies of the "B&L Job Coach" (for you old timers like me). You can accesss, and search on their website. The address is;
