Sign of the times in my opinion. Every year that passes, Vision Expo becomes more and more irrelevant.

    For those that are going:

    Why?

Is it to do some buying?
Is it to look at equipment?
    Is it for continuing education?
Is it for the loud music, stale M&M's, dead fish handshakes, and soft porn at the Revolution Booth (allegedly?)?

Or is it just an excuse to go to the Big Apple and catch a show and some panhandling?

I am serious, I am really curious as to the reasons!

IF I can go it will be to see the lens and equipment reps and displays. Maybe if possible a trip to the diamond district.

I'll be there Saturday and Sunday. I go to buy frames and tools, look at edgers, talk to lens manufacturers, network, and spend some time in Manhattan.

I'm curious as to what deals I'll find for hotels. I usually drive down from MA for one day, but this year I intend to stay overnight. Any suggestions?

I actually had not planned to attend VEE this year but circumstances demanded I go. Just booked my flight to NY today (I would have loved to attended the Un-Expo, though).

Well, then, Doc, given that you can't be at the obviously-preferable Un-Expo, you should attend the Eye Rock show at B.B. King's on Saturday night. https://app.etapestry.com/hosted/One...stration3.html. In any case, please drop by the Ocuco booth.

Thanks for the invite, Robert. I will drop by the Ocuco booth but will not attend the Eye Rock show. See you then.

I go to VE for continuing ed credits and to see what's new in the industry. I usually do some buying but business hasn't been so great lately so this year I'll just be window-shopping. It's also a good excuse for a girls' weekend in the city. Eight of us (practice mgr, optical mgr and techs) stay overnight, go out for dinner and then brunch the next day. It's a nice combination of work and fun.

    Went on Saturday

My European partners were at the show so I flew in on Saturday morning and home on Saturday evening. The taxi from Newark took nearly 2.5 hrs. As this was my first show I can't compare it to anything but I would say that in comparison to the amount of exhibitors, the buyers were far outnumbered and I saw very little business happening.

My guess is that this was my first and last unless I need to go for meetings.

Engnenk....Sorry you didn't enjoy the show. I read other posts about the show that confirmed that attendance was up on Friday and busy on Saturday. The taxi sounds like a headache. It's not normal to take that long, but I do prefer flying into LGA or JFK when I come to NYC. Any suggestions?

Fly into Newark and take the rails (train or PATH) into New York or the ferry from Hoboken. Inexpensive, clean, safe and probably 30 minutes depending on your timing to be at dock the time that boats leaves.

Expo seemed busier than past especially on Friday, my only day at the show. Friends who are bying and others that are vendors commented that a good number of dollars were being spent...
