    Big Smile windows xp

:D just installed xp seems to make things like connecting to optiboard much faster.:bbg: ( you will have to try it john r).
just a shame i can't get both my monitors to run.
one is agp card and the other is pci.
i don't think this set up will work on xp.
guess i will have to get a dual outlet agp card.
all in all the layout seems to be an improvement on me.

    Question Optispares

What do you like about XP? I still have 98 and it seems to be doing OK . Occasionally it will bite the dust with a fatal error message.

I have XP on one of our computers at home and at the office. Conflicts or errors happen alot when using the outbox and pulling things from My Documents to e-mail. The log error goes to MS when it occurs so that they can record incidents. The other problem that occurs is if you do a Power Point Presentation on XP and open on another edition there are some discrepancies.

I find it cumbersome in printing from the net. My favorite is my Windows ME 2000 on my lap top. I still have 98 on my daughter's computer and 2000 on my HP.

My favorite computers are our Dells.:p

They can forget that happening when i install it.....

Its so refreshing to see that a company can'not learn from the past mistakes.....
I have an old Amiga, the o/s runs in 512k is a stable as a rock programs do not tie themselves into the o/s so deleting is a joy not a terror. Shame they could not have got their act together and ruled the world like Microcrap....

recovery programme on disk did nothing ended up re-installing. then found all my documents had disappeared took all afternoon to find them.:hammer: still trying to get my macromedia products to load:angry:
still it gives me something to do.
thanks mr Gates another fine mess you got me into.

    Redhot Jumper Windows XP

I hear that MS will release Service Pack 9 sometime in 2004 which
will correct all the XP bugs.

Think I will stick with NT here.

    Idea I think I'll wait

It seems like I get a new computer every 3 to 4 years. I guess I'll wait for the version that's loaded on it.

FWIW I haven't had any problems with XP. It's a lot more stable than Windows 98 which used to crash on me once or twice a day. In three months of running XP, my machine has only crashed once. Granted it's not quite up to Unix/Linux standards, but it is a good step forward for someone like Micro$oft.

    FWIW

    Steve,
With all due respect of course............I run Win ME,XP & NT(I dual boot on two PC's & a laptop)And so far XP(Which is supposed to be based on the same kernel as Win NT)seem's to fall short on Microsoft's promise of stability like Windows NT(and lack of drivers for that matter does not help matters).Granted is does make some app's more user friendly.......this does not make up for it's lackluster performance against NT......IMHO 98SE was much better for your everyday person at home w/their PC.That bring's me up to Window's Me..... Seem's to be the best of the bunch so far(Stable OS,supports a great deal more drivers and then some.....even though it comes from as far back as the Win 95 architect.)Seem's as though Microsoft took more time with Win Me ...........and just pushed XP through. They had the right idea w/Xp(Don't get me wrong!) except they did not keep the home pc user in mind. Most people want to flip on their pc and go to OB:D...they don't want to mess with algorithms or a syntax to get there.

Angry have i found the answer

:hammer: could i have found the answer to my crashes?
having spent all day setting things back to rights (like a fool) i decided to alter the clock speed of my computer, all worked fine 'til i decided to switch off then oops the same error i had before so i will have to start again.
i think i did the same thing the first time.
guess i will have to stop trying to over clock .
it worked fine under ME .
it seems to alter the config sys files so xp says it is corrupt and will not boot.

The part I find most frustrating about windows XP is finding the drivers you need to operate your hardware (printers, scanners, etc.).

I also get really sick of the idiot boxes that look like my computer is talking to me in some sort of cartoon. UGH! I have to click them closed twice! ARGH!

:D Been running xp here without a problem , but you do have to completely clean off your hard drive beforehand as it will pick up the file system from what you had on there previously.

I think Harry hit it on the head. If you buy a system with XP installed from the get-go, you are likely to find it very reliable. However if you upgrade a system from Win98 or ME, you are more likely to run into compatibility issues.

Stick out tongue Oops, should have mentioned that!

We were running ME. The kid strongly advised against the upgrade and that we start with a complete XP program clearing and reloading all other programs. Cindy, I had no problem with drivers. XP immediately recognized all other hardware attached including our camera.

    Big Smile As I said

    I don't think I'll upgrade. I'll wait until I buy a new system.

It's just my opinion(in my last post)Don't get me wrong.............Xp is very reliable as a stand alone os.Harry's right the best results are w\a clean hard drive.I was just taking it from the upgrade standpoint.XP on a new system rocks(Full Install). It's when you use the XP upgrade to change from 98,Me........that's where thing's get a bit buggy........as most people do not feel comfy with formatting their hard drives and then trying to reinstall their old programs in the hope's that they will run.XP has no problem with drivers on new pc's and equipment. It's when you get into so called "dated" pc's.

    Crier Sean

I'm still running on a 333 megahertz system at home. I've dumped my system several times because of bugs and spent hours reloading software. It's like going to the dentist, you know you have to but you really aren't looking forward to it.

Couple of places for 'XP' related items. The first is a site that happesn to use the same program Steve does for the BB. That said, the site contains many details regarding the care and feeding od an XP system.
The second site will take you to the must have TWEAK UI for XP.

PS - have heard the same thing regarding upgrades. More problems seem to lurk there than a clean install.
