    Optiboard Challenge: Haiti Relief

    Ok you bunch of over paid opticians. I challenge you to donate 20 bucks to the Haiti Relief Fund at the Red Cross. Your not gonna miss it. Collectively, we can make a difference. If you've even glanced at the devastation...imagine your world like that. We got it good compared to those poor people. Do something you can feel proud about. Donate, now, while you're thinking about it.

    Got a nice note from Red Cross......

    reprinted below:

    With your timely contribution to the American Red Cross, we are helping our sister society in Haiti to provide critical assistance to the untold number of people affected by the catastrophic earthquake.

    Thanks to you, the American Red Cross:

    Pledged $10 million to support humanitarian relief activities;
    Deployed disaster response experts to provide relief and recovery expertise;
    Sent 5,000 family kits that include blankets, kitchen sets and water containers.

    We are grateful to have your support that brings hope and comfort to those affected by these devastating earthquakes. As the response evolves, please visit www.redcross.org to learn more about your gift at work.
    Sincerely,
    American Red Cross

    I'm glad people are sending donations through the Red Cross, Salvation Army and other groups.

    From reports that I'm receiving from the medical team that I usually work with, things are worse than being reported. One of the biggest problems is logistical. There are plenty of supplies coming in, but moving them to the needed areas is almost impossible, due in part to the destruction. Hopefully with the US and Canadian military units going in this will straighten out.

    While I'm not on this trip because of health concerns, I am helping to organize and move supplies and some personnel to the area. Sorry if this sounds disjointed, but I've been working the last 36 or so hours with no sleep and am about ready for a nap.

    Another quick note: There is a Facebook group called "EVERY PERSON THAT JOINS WE WILL DONATE $1 TO HELP PEOPLE IN HAITI!" Join it, they already have over 1,000,000 members.

    Nay Nay, don't be too quick to judge! Our members are a great group and I am sure they all are doing whatever they can in this situation. Many prefer to do it quietly....that does not lessen their contribution. Some things don't need to be worn up front and no one of us who has witnessed the suffering going on in Haiti, it untouched. It is heart rending to see the children. I didn't think twice about contributing, but I did think twice before posting that I had done so.

    Thanks Harry, for your jolting me into reality. I'm sure everyone has done what they can. These folks need us now, and I'm glad we can collectively help.

    The word that I received about an hour ago is that supplies, etc. are moving a bit more smoothly. The initial shock is over so things will improve from here on out. I wish i could be there :(

    there but for the grace of God is us.

    donated through red cross day one. Since I have two Airborne soldiers living in my house (one of which is my son) I gotta say AIRBORNE - when you absolutely, positively gotta have a rescue mission over night! Here's praying for the 82nd's safety. When cleaning up after the tsunami a blackhawk returned and found an arrow stuck in the fuselage!!
