Do you know... the red test?

Hello everyone, to begin please understand that I'm still am a student. So if this is a stupid question...

So, in taking an eye exam, have you ever hear of a red test?

You see, I'm trying to make my homework and encounter the following question: Conclude the eyeexam with a red-green test and a red test.

Now, I know the red-green test and the polarised red-green test but a "red test"?

The worst part is that no teachers at school can tell me what a red-test nor can any of my collegues at work.

Do any of you know what this so called red test is?

    Thanks in advance,

    Mactire

Don't know much about any of those tests, but a quick Google search found this; not sure if it helps.

    Thanks for your reply TLG.
The red-reflex is also the only thing that I have come up with.
But concearning the subject of this chapter, sferical refraction, it just doesn't make sence. The red-reflex is for determining abnormalities at the back of the eye.

It bothers me, it just doensn't make sense! Why ask for something if it doens't exist? Are my teachers stupid or does it simply not exist and is it some sort of typo?

Ah well, if any of you have any othersuggestions, you'll be a great help.

    Greetz,

I think they are referring to the "red lens" test to check for second and third degree sensory fusion.

I also think they are talking about the "red lens test".

Put a red lens over the right eye and do motilities with a penlight, see if there is diplopia or suppression.

Was actually part of the physical exam back when I was a U.S. Navy optometrist.

    Thanks Harry.
The red lens test might just be it. Even though it isn't a refraction test.

I've spend the last two day's online searching for any answer (I'm sick at home right now ^_^) and this is the most logical answer.

I've found and extensive explenation of the red lens test at: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/bookshel...k=cm&part=ch60

I will include this in my homework and try the test in a minute. I like tests!

    Thanks again!

    The red test

    THE RED TEST

This test is performed in Texas only.

    1. Check the back of the patients neck.
    2. If it is red, they won't wear their glasses.
    3. If red, get payment in cash only.

It took a while to find out the answer. But I've got it now.

    And it's soooo simple.

The red test is nothing more than a variaty on the red-green test.

In stead of giving S+0.25 and S-0.25 to see wheather you have refracted correctly you give on lu S+0.25

The reason is that the red test sould be more accurate since it is more precise, 0.25dpt in stead of 0.50dpt (the difference between -0.25 and +0.25) and that by giving S+0.25 you won't risk giving to much minus power.

Now I've also found why no-one at school or at work knew what the red test was. I'm at school in Holland and basicly the soutehrn part of Holland uses the red-green test and the northern part uses the red test.
Why? Becuase the decided so. ^_^
My teacher also warned me not to engage in a discussion about his since this discussion is going on for about 30years in Holland.

And also nice to know, no-one knew about the red lens test ^_^

Seems there are also cultural differences in optician-land ^_~

Anyway, thanks for all your responses.

Are you suggesting that not all opticians have bad beards and love beer?

Hehe, I don't drink. So there's your cultural difference. But I agree on the bad beards though.

Whenever my boss says You really ought to take a shave" I reply: "don't worry, it's casual" ^_~

And that beard would be my nine 'o clock shadow, exept it takes me four days to grow one O_o'

I hate to break it to ya LandLord, but you are incorrect.

We perform that test here in Oklahoma too.
