Ok so my Doc is outta town and i got a pt comming in wanting to order trials and its not documented what kind of trial to give her so here is some info from the exam. Hopefully someone can recommed a trial rx and lens. Oh and she will eventually end up ordering color lenses.

Side note: cut rx by -1.50 and OU cyl by .75

    Rx given (specs) +3.75-1.00x013; +3.75-1.00x153

    V: 42.50/7.92/97 42.25/7.97/71
    Ave: 41.25/8.18 41.25/8.17
    Cyl -2.50 /7 cyl -2.00/161

can some one please generate a SCL for me. Im guessing for colors it will have to be a D2 or D3 lens and for clear mabe sl66 or Freq55??

    Thanks!

What's the rush. Wait until the Doc is back and ensure they get the correct trial. If you just randomly choose something they may have to re-trial if the Doc doesn't agree. Especially considering they have to finalize the Rx.

    Correct

If you cannot figure this out, you need not be fooling around with CLs. Wait until your eyecare professional returns and gives you direction.

If you're going cosmetic tint toric, you are going to have to order vialed lenses.

This does not lend itself well to multiple trials--you have to return them for credit, etc.

So, you want to be cautious to not order anything willy-nilly.

First, I'd really try to talk the patient out of cosmetic tints. It will open up the world of silicone hydrogels and advanced toric designs, vs. designs and materials literally from the 1980's. What's more, the Dr. will have trial lenses to work with, and in this "difficult Rx" case, that may be a big factor in the success.

If you are just an employee don't mess around with contact lenses, specially if the prescriber is not there. If you give the trial lens and something goes wrong the liability is on you. Lenses come in different curves and diameters besides the power. If the lens get stuck on the eye and your patient cannot remove the lens then that is an emergency because most likely it will end with a red eye. Note removing the epithelium is painful!!!

    Ok gogetter

This is a case where your best bet is to NOT try to live up to your name. Wait on the doc. If you have to ask guys on the net, you're not ready for this. Save yourself a big headache and some embarrassment (and maybe your job) and WAIT!

The first thing to do is to tell them that opaque toric lenses don't come in her Rx. :p Secondly, you have to fit her in either a double thin design (like oasys toric) or she will have nothing but rocking, the flat K's aren't helping either.

The many ways to get this wrong if you are not sure of yourself far outweigh the chance of your getting it right, esp with just some ideas thrown at you from an internet forum. Wait for the doc, is the best advice as you've aleady been told. I second it. And as Ack mentioned, it would be a good idea to let her know the RX limitations of colored contacts available on the market from the get-go.

Doesn't the doctor leave a number where he/she can be reached? If not then please wait until the doc returns. Listen to your own common sense.

You are further enabling the "contact lens crisis" crowd by not letting them wait for the Dr.

Let them wear their glasses until you can determine what lenses to order.

Had a toric daily disposeable in today (Sat) who was out of lenses and leaving for Europe Monday. He was most outraged at our lack of service for his needs.

    Exclamation read contact lens packages

Fedral law PROHIBITS dispensing without a valid prescription. You're best bet is to explain to the patient (or in this case impatient!) that for their occular health and safety it would be best to wait for the Dr. and not to guess!!
