    Religious freedom

Is it time to outlaw Islam?
    From Here.
Pakistani officials say they have plenty of evidence to prove that all five Muslim Americans along with one of their fathers traveled abroad hoping to train with Jihadist groups and challenge U.S. troops in Afghanistan
But if Islam is outlawed, what's to stop Christianity (or any other religion) rom being outlawed? Timothy McVeigh was a Christian and a terrorist, as are abortion clinic bombers.

I think it is stupid to blame terrorism on a religion and to believe that Muslims are extremists. It is actually really stupid. Like "I liked paint chips off the barn when I was a child" stupid.

People will take things and pervert it for their own reasons. Osama Bin Ladin and friends have done the exact same, just like many Christians have done in the past. And here is something even more shocking, there have even been some Atheists who have done bad things too.

It is not any particular religion's fault, and it is certainly not the fault of religion as a whole.

I think that "[i]s it time to outlaw Islam?" is an astonishing question, for which there is no support in the materials you cite.

And, rather obviously, neither the federal government nor the several states have the power to "outlaw Islam." I'm sure you're aware of that; why even ask such a question?

To stimulate interesting conversation. I'm sure there are many Americans - some right here on this board - who are thinking "here we go again. Those dang muslims are trying to kill us, even recruiting and brainwashing our own citizens. We should just get rid of them all". I don't believe it. I don't think any one religion is better, or less guilty of these behaviors than another. That's why I specifically pointed out how Christians have behaved simlilarly. But it's in the news, and should be discussed openly.

I'm totally against it. I have a number of freinds that are Muslim and they are deffinately not terrorists. I think the ones that should be outlawed are the idiots that think this way.

    I am Pagan.

What the heck was the purpose of this thread? Sounds like it might have been fueled by Mr. J. Barleycorn.

You've become one with this thread.:drop:

How about a thread where we rationally discuss at what point does Revolution become Terrorism (or are they the same)?

You can't outlaw a religion. You can force it underground as has been done before but you can never make it's followers stop believing or practicing their faith so what exactly was the point of the question?

Spex's point, or perhaps motive, was to get us redneck, clutching to our guns and religion ultra right wing conservatives to show our true colors. He watches too much Limbaugh and really believes that is a representative of true middle American conservatism.
