    Drill mounts/rimless?

Are rimless frames out of style for 2010? Thank you for your thoughts.

    Is that you, Joe?
Anyway, we still sell a bunch of the Kishimotos, maybe not in all the regular shapes, but that's what customization is for.
Could use a Kishimoto with a slightly more ornate temple for the ladies that want a bit more frills.

Drill mts are still very much in style in Texas!! Just need more ornate temples for the ladies or stones. I get request for stones weekly but supplies are limited in the drill mts w/stones.
Also some different shapes from your line would be appreciated. I do carry your product also!:)

I say dying. We were into the rimless styles way early. Our patients have seen them for about 11 years now. They are almost as bored with them as I am. I think they have more than run their course.

We are selling some of the Acuity Optical offerings with the wider temples. They have a neat style and look to them that current rimless wearers seem to dig. The plain jane rimless styles = DOA.

We deal pretty exclusively with Silhouette in this arena, and while I'm personally getting bored with the little tweaks and nuances in their ongoing effort to keep themselves fresh... our patients still seem to be in love with them. So I'd say, No, rimless is still very much alive.

I just got my first drill mount last month. Mine are a fun color and have wider temples. I don't think drills are a super hot look, more a classic that some people will always want.

It depends on your clientele, location and of course, your offerings. We sell rimless daily, and custom CZ inlaid w/facets almost weekly. ( And the category is growing)..

It's one area you can really set yourself apart. Custom shapes, custom treatments. There are plenty of older clientele that are sick of the little bitty frames shoved down their throats the last 10 years.

You can do deep color grooves for those that want a "frame" around their lens, make "eye jewelry" with facets and stone inlays, one of a kind custom shapes to enhance performance or appearance...There really are thousands of possibilities.

We are all being squeezed by competition. Rimless custom designs give you an edge. "You won't see or get this elsewhere." Granted, most locations can't do this in house, but there are people like Billy Brock that can do it for you.

WE've been doing a ton of them, especially w/ Acuity, Tom's Designs, LightTech, and a few others. I won't carry anything that is plain. Bright colors, textured colors...anything different.

    Welcome!

We still sell rimless frames. The patients that do wear them want something else the next time around but still want the lightness of of 3PM.
We cary Sillhouettes and Kishimotos! I love them both!
More temple designs will be good!

Do what Optical 24/7 says, you should sell a ton of them in your area. Look at Billy Brock's website for ideas, but do the work yourself (it's more FUN that way). I'm in a smaller rural area and we see a lot of them. We do faceting, shape modification (some are pretty farm out), etching, and a few with stones set in. Cusomized tinting helps too.

Don't kid yourself, you may be tired of selling them but patients still want them. Why, because they are very comfortable. We don't push them but they end up as our number one selling frame quarter after quarter. We have many different brands but Silhouette out sells all others.

Yes, that is part of it. But part of it is that many people don't like the current dark heavy frame look. Plently of people want glasses that are softer and blend more.

Well Global Optique I still sell several a month but what you may be seeing is optician now realize that good quality not to say your line is not I have not seen it, and lens shape options not two or three style typical of everyone else but silhouette. What we want is a durable frame that nose pads don't fall off of at a fair price (cheap is not what we want only what we say). This is why that for mentioned company can ditch all other products and customers will sign the partnership commitment. If your up to the challenge theirs a large market share waiting for a good company and I'll be the first to put you on my boards.

I may be booed out of the building here, but IMHO I STILL like the mounting system much better on the Marchon Airlock line... I often have patients come in with their Silhouettes wiggling around, but I've never had to tighten up an Airlock. Most of the shapes are a little more standard-looking, but then Silhouette has "retired" a few of my favorite "out-there" shapes, over the years... which tends to leave only the more standard ones. :hammer:

That being said, I don't think Marchon is the same company it used to be, since the buyout... and I never liked dealing with 5 reps, anyway.

I don't carry the Silhouettes but someone around here does because I end up fixing a lot of them. I think the wiggling problem stems from so many people using the soft bushings, I only use the Hilco hard bushings and I've found them to last longer.
I carry the Kishimotos and I always have a variety of colors of their bridges around to fix the broken Silhs with. The one-piece construction results in (so far zero breakages for me) more robust construction without any solders or welds anywhere on the frame.

Ohmigosh! They're up to 5 rep lines now? They must be suffering from Lux envy. :D

I'm with you, although I can't say I've never had to tighten one, but certainly not nearly as often as the Silhouettes or Silhouette knock-offs.

I see those bushings in the Hilco catalog but I've never used them. Good to know. It's a shame Silhouette can't provide one of their OWN that works, though...

I don't have wiggle problems with any Silhouettes I make.

Now, if they're old (4-5 years), and or slept/stepped on, that's a different story. It's all in how you treat the hole. Each one here is individually reamed to fit each bushing perfectly.

The Hilco compression mounts are different from the Silhouette. Enough so that we are forced to change them out every time. (Yeah, it's a work in progress with the drill lab...but they may *get-it* some day.) hehe But we've found that 100% of the time, we get a better fit with the Sil mounts. We use both the hard and the soft, but mostly the latter. They work perfectly - IF they're mounted well and proper.

I make and sell tons of Silhouettes. They have the soft and hard plugs. The soft are a breeze to put together. The hard are what comes with the colorama and titan X. Also the Adidas come with the hard plugs which are quite tricky to seat properly. I have had many redo's with scratched lenses from a slip with the compression pliers. I agree with Barry, they must be hand reamed otherwise the holes can be a bit too large.
We sell the Silhouette line as a classic that never goes out of style. Comfort with a capitol C. We in fact weigh the glasses in front of the customers and show them that they are weighing 10 grams or less. We do tons of custom shapes too. I and my staff also wear them and demonstrate them to everyone. That sure helps to sell them!

Rimless age people 30 plus - so, a younger adult might like rimless - unless your client wants to look their age or older, I tend to steer clear of rimless styles for us gorgeous older folk!
