    Laser Marker System

My friend's company manufactured a CO2 laser marking system for marking stock lenses. The buyer has not taken delivery for several months. The system was designed to mark stock lenses and can mark upto 1800 lenses per hour. It has autofocus and auto positioning. More details are available. Asking price is 25,000USD FOB Hong Kong.

I'm not interested in the marking system, but I was curious...

What is it marking? For layout? For packaging? How does it mark the lenses?

    Like I said..just curious.

It is used for marking progressives or any other lens that one would need to engrave. When you FF surface a spherical lens blank as a progressive they have no markings so a laser is used to engrave the lenses with the verification marks. Zeiss also engraves initials on their lenses. For a FF lab set up without the laser your looking at purchasing all your blanks from the software vendor at a premium of course.

Oh! I saw "stock lenses" and assumed (don't ask me why) that they were talking SV.

What you said makes sense to me now!

This particular system is designed for single vision stock lenses but it can be used for laser marking progressive lenses as YrahG mentioned.
