Although the only event I could imagine myself even possibly being competitive in would be that ice bowling/shuffleboard thing, I would ideally like to compete in Skeleton!

For some reason, this event doesn't get any coverage (that I've ever seen), but it involves a sled that is even more basic than the luge and you race headfirst down the course with nothing to steer you except your feet and leaning this way and that...

I think the most terrifying event would be ski jumping (I can't get the ABC Wide World of Sports "agony of defeat" clip out of my head).

I've been watching the US qualifying heats in the biathalon and luge and speed skating over the past week or so- I'm definitely ready to watch some Winter Olympics!

Are you refering to Curling? How can that even be considered a sport? Why not that one where you ski and shoot at targets? Or you could do the high dive (If you can squeeze into those speedos)

    Skeleton very scarrry

    Pete,

I was watching a morning show the other day and they did a promo on the Skeleton, looks very scary ! Guts are a requirement! Maybe, to try it in a simulator would be ok!

I think my favorite winter olympic sport to participate in would be HOCKEY! What a way to take out your frustrations by checking someone into the boards :shiner:

    Hey,

Did you know that you can Bobsled in Lake Placid? When you are there check out the ski jumpers, they are crazy.

    Very cool.

    DOWNHILL!!!!!!!

Back in the mid 70's I was given the rare opportunity of being one of 3 skiers to do the FIS downhill run in Aspen, on a closed course just after the race was over. The experience was the second most exhilarating thing I've ever done on skis.(the first being skiing the backside of Ajax in bottomless powder.Since powder skiing isn't an Olympic event, I'd have to go with the downhill for sheer thrills.

Big Smile Sitting in the lodge

How about bobsledding. Then going back to the lodge for a Hot Totti. My spelling is awful.

There just seems to be SOMETHING about racing uncontrollably downhill that's invigorating, yes refreshing

(must be a flashback to when I was younger and invincible and would actually go TUBING during the winter months....ah, the wonders of youth!)

I know what I would do...

Olympic reading or maybe Olympic staring compititions. Wait! No I'm not cut out for Olympic sleeping. What about Olympic division? I hear it's grueling. Olympic fire building or better yet, full contact Olympic torch carrying. Olympic snow jogging, that would be a tough one. Olympic snowman building.

Wait! I've got it! Olympic Snowbunny watching! :) That's the sport for me. I bet I would excell in it.

"Next on the hill, Darris Cahmbless. He steps out of the lodge, sets his lawn chair in position. The buzzer sounds and he cominces staring as the Snowbunnies walk by. We'll check back from time to time to see how he's doing. Remember he must make remarks to the Bunnies and get as many phone numbers as he can within a predetermined period of time to win this grueling compitition. Stay tuned."

Yup, that's the one for me. I could ask things like "Would you like to see my appendix scar?" or "Have you noticed how tall I am?" :)

Anyway and seriously I think speed skating would be cool. It requires a lot of leg strength and technique.

    Take care,

    Darris C.

    Big Smile New Event

I would enter the car sliding on the ice contest. I've come out of a couple of those with a 10 across the board.

    Lightbulb for the men

It has been reported in the press that the female skaters are wearing very tight and skimpy outfits some of which when shown in close up (lucky cameraman) are bordering on the pornographic.. This lead to a 50% increase of viewers watching the european and world champs on tellie.:bbg: I understand that some of the ruling bodies have now told them to wear a bit more..:hammer: Spoilsports.....

    Ice surfing......

btw, you can always relie on the press to bring things down to base level.....

    Big Smile How about

Goose Bumping. I'm sure those skaters that John R was refering to could compete in the number or goose bumps. Intersting count, I'm sure.
