    Eschenbach Group Aquires Tura Eyewear

    From Vision Monday:

The Eschenbach Group of Nuremberg has acquired U.S.-based eyewear company Tura, effective Nov. 30, 2009, according to a joint announcement from the two companies. The purchase price was not disclosed.

With the Tura acquisition, Nuremberg-based Eschenbach Group will generate annual sales of just under $210 million in 2010 with its high-quality eyeglass frames, sunglasses, vision aids, consumer optics and technical optics. The corporate Eschenbach group has developed at an above-average pace since Barclays Private Equity acquired a majority stake in Eschenbach in 2007.

And since I found it here is the press release on Echenbach's website that says the same thing:

If you want to read this one you're going to have to copy the whole line and paste it into your browser address bar, for some reason the link is not working correctly by clicking on it.

    Tura...

Anyone know where the Tura frames are actually manufactured? We have alot of Eschenbach here for low vision. I'm still searching for some quality American made frames.

Well, thank goodness! At least they aren't going to be distributed by BBH Eyewear, who does the Eschenbachs here. I think they have some poor policies.

A decent USA frame line does not exist. I have searched high and low for one in the recent past. Tura is not made in the U.S.

Most of the Tura is Japanese.

    Pardon the brief hijack.

I just received our initial order of BBH frames (96 frames across their lines). Over half the frames came in without UPC barcode numbers. We use OfficeMate and all of our frames are barcoded. It took 4 calls over 3 days trying to get the missing UPCs and then they finally just emailed me 4 Excel spreadsheets covering nearly 5000 frames. I was still missing 9 UPCs after all that.

Back to your regularly scheduled thread.

You realize your warranty on the frames starts the day YOU buy them, not the customer? That's why I dropped them.

Try Kala Eyewear from California. Hand made in the US for almost 30 years. Great pricing too.

I am a developer of upca barcode of glasses. It has been said that the comfort and fit of the glasses was the most important factor, followed by durability. Once they found comfortable and durable glasses, then they could get on with the business of finding something that looks good. Would you say that your priorities are the same?I also think that Eschenbach is better.
