I enjoyed his contributions but I also don't know what transpired to get him booted. Can someone enlighten me...specifically. I did see Steve's and others posts in general. :)

No, it was Chip being Chip, and it didn't sit well with many. I didn't see it, and didn't miss anything.

You have to listen to complaints. That's the one sure secret to the success of any venture. No one is going to bat a thousand, and when you don't you need to know why. That's why complaints are important. Someone complained.......someone listened. Its really as simple as that. What might make this case a little more complex, could be the context in which the complaint was issued but I am not privy to specifics nor do I need to be. A decision was made for the good of the board. Like I said, no one bats a thousand. I think the institution which we have created is important. I think it is important to have everyone feel welcome here. That carries with it the responsibility to excercise common courtesy.

It wasn't the first complaint, by a long shot , but it was the last! You might call it the straw that broke the camel's back. What little I know of it gave me the impression it was frivolous, but I know very little of it. Sometimes in a heated discussion, people (usually on the short end) take actions without pondering the consequences. Be that as it may, it is what it is....

the diversity of opinions on this board, Chips included. I wasn't that thrilled by his thinly veiled racist and anti semitic tag lines. I believe those are just wrong. I don't know if that's what got him booted or not, but it made me think a little less of him. Most of you know I'm not a big fan of OD's, but I don't believe that just because you're an Optician that it makes you automatically right. The man has mad skills and he was generous with his knowledge. I just wish he wouldn't have spent time joking about hate. That's my 2 cents anyway.

I hope you're all going to be able to spend time with your families for Thanksgiving. We have a lot to be thankful for.

Like all of my moderator friends, I take the content and the image of OptiBoard very personally. We, with Steve, believe that there is much to be gained by the free and open discussion of both the basics and the complexities of our professions.

There is no place here for overt or veiled racism, class-ism or any other -ism. Regardless of profession, we are here to impart and/or receive knowledge. Those members who can't or won't play by the rules will be dealt with accordingly. Moderators don't take these decisions lightly and will often allow questionable behaviors to persist much longer than is necessary. When the line is crossed for the last time, there is little that can change that decision. It is done with the full knowledge of and much communication with the party in question.

Take heart, you may find the offending party on some other forum, just not ours.

I started this poll purely to get the numbers, for or against. It is not a matter of the WHY or who put in the complaint that triggered the action. There is another thread still running on the subject.
