What causes thick grey limbus and is it a condition if it's too thick?

It's called "arcus" and it's a type of peripheral corneal degeneration.
It's lipid-like deposits, and it's normal in older people, and possibly abnormal in younger ones.
Other possible etiologies are crocodile shagreen, or in very rare cases a Kaiser Fleisher ring in Wilson's disease...most likely arcus, though.
