    buying edger overseas

I recently saw inexpensive new patternless edgers from Nidek sold from An Indonesian company via Alibaba Trading.

Has anyone dealt with this company? Is it for real?

I don't think there is a price low enough that would convince me to buy an edger from them. I don't know them...personally nor otherwise, and that is reason enough.

    Why not a used one?

UsedLabs.com is a used optical equipment classifieds mainly in the U.S.

Paternless.com offers rebuilt equipment with warranty and lifetime support.

Nidek no longer sells parts for some edgers (7070 included.)

We bought our Santinelli 9000 SX Express from VSI (www.patternless.com) and are quite happy with the service and consistency we get out of the refurbished machine. Much less expensive than a new one and the service is much less expensive. And you'll actually have help in case something goes haywire or breaks. I'm sure your Indonesian company won't offer you that.

I'm assuming you're talking about this place: http://www.alibaba.com/member/id1085...oductlist.html

Shipping probably won't be cheap, but I see your point. It's still about $13K less than a new one from Santinelli even at their own discounted prices. You'll still need to buy a blocker of some sort.

Everyone that knows me knows I like a challenge, but I'm not sure I would try this one myself.

The actual name of the company is PT. Bratuyuda Ambosa Co,Ltd. Alibaba simply appears to be a trading platform somewhat like ebay. The prices on the Bratuyada site appear to be impossibly low. For example, a Marco OPD aberrometer is selling for $7500 (costs $30K here). Edgers (presumably new) for $5000! I'm not sure what's going on here but something doesn't sound right. Furthermore, the English on their website is almost indecipherable.

    Company Info

    PT. Bratuyuda Ambosa Co,Ltd.
    [Indonesia]

    City: Berayan
    Province/State: Propinsi Sumatera Utara
    Country/Region : Indonesia
    Business Type:Distributor/Wholesaler, Other

That is all the information available, and AliBaba is avery successful advertising platform in Asia, where anybody can advertise anything. There is no official website as far as I could see, that gives address, tel fax and so forth. They have not shown up in any trade show which is the only place you can show heavy equipment.

They probably rake payment out front, so would you trusy a company that does not even give out their address ?
