Here's a New One on Me

My next door neighbour gave me a pair of glasses that belonged to his brother-in-law to fix. One lens was broken and the other one's prescription was out of date. He is in the process of moving to Ontario (he's building a home) and his optometrist is in Calgary. Please keep in mind that I am an out of province provider in relation to the office in Calgary.

When I phoned his optometrist for his latest prescription I was told by the "optometric assistant" or maybe it was the receptionist that they did not give out that information due to privacy issues and would only do so after the receipt of a customer signed waiver.
I told her that the eyewear was given to me by a 3rd party and the customer was living 2 hours away from me at a cottage temporarily. I advised her that since the cottage probably wouldn't be outfitted with a fax, I would be able to get her to provide a verbal authoriation.

Anyway she was a queen ***** and after asking me if I had indeed read the privacy act lol.....she reluctantly faxed me the prescription.

I have never had anything remotely like this happen but I wanted to know if this kind of thing has happened to anyone else.

    Regards,
    Golfnorth

a couple of times. It is illegal. Also, she might have been coarse, but I find that is usually a result of the environment in this situation. I bet her boss is so furious that people are leaving, that he/she takes it out on her. So she in return takes it out on everyone else.

Naturally, everyone is desperatelty clinging on to what's theirs. With the new privacy laws in place and without a signed or verbal consent from the patient, (to which I understand they didn't have) it is not illegal to not share it. They are 50% simply following protocol, followed by 50% of standing behind the privacy shield and not letting anyone go!

Stingy knuckleheads don't even realize they already lost the customer. No point in pissing them off after they're gone.

Just fax the form with any signature....who is going to have a patient signature for reference. NOT the legal thing to do, but I'm sure the patient would be high fiving the ingenuity.;)

Bear in mind, by knowingly perfoming an illegal act known as forgery and falsifying a document, is it potentially worth losing your licence and career for a sale to a single customer???

And although convenient for your customer this time, how do you really think your customer will view you? The answer is crooked.

Feel better? All that for a couple of hundred dollars.

How will the client feel that if you forged his/her name?
