    What is your favorite adjustment/repair/technique?

Okay, there's a lot of negative threads about opticianry, big-box opticals and frame distributors, etc. going around. I did my favorite adjustment today, and it made me want to know about everyone else's. So, what's your favorite adjustment to do for a patient? What kind of challenging repair doesn't scare you? What's your favorite tool?

My favorite thing is shrinking the string on a rimless frame with a lighter. If the string is just a teeny bit too long, but it's not worth the trouble to fudge around with pulling the string through just a little, passing a lighter flame under the string will make it shrink up. It does this wiggly-curly motion and you know that's all it needs. Does that make me a pyro??
It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.

When bending in a metal frame's endpiece to make a tighter fit, use TWO tools: a nylon/flat (Hilco 21/405 works well) to hold down the eyewire closure to the endpiece; and a nylon round (Hilco 21/412) to turn in the endpiece. Make sure you rotate the round tool in place, not push the endpiece. This avoids transfering pressure to the solder joint while allowing lots of leverage.

I like to use the Oldschool Philadelphia Bend*!

It is not used commonly anymore.

*Not to be confused with the South Philly Bend. That is a whole other "ADJUSTMENT"!

Attitude adjustment! HA! Fezzie you so funny! That made my day. I'm back from my hiatus, btw.
So I took the adv ncle yesterday. My head still hurts. Much harder than the adv abo, probably due to the fact that I DON'T fit contacts. Oh well. We shall see in a few weeks how I did.
Now, time to start on "The Paper".

    Never forget......

An old guy(like me now) I started with years ago had this one patient who used to constantly come in with his glasses so bent and say "I don't know what happened...bla...bla...bla". One day my buddy had enough of that so he takes the glasses into the back(where I was sitting laughing), sets them on the bench, without touching them. Then picked up the sledge hammer we had (10 lb.) and took a swing at a big metal trash can we had sending it and all it's contents and the lid flying across the back office! Such a loud noise it scared the crap out of me. He straightens his hair and collar, picks up the glasses, cleans them and returns to set them on the patient's face. And you guessed it, he was so pleased with his adjustment, thanked Charlie and left. I can see and hear it like it was yesterday. And that my friends, has always been MY Favorite Adjustment!

Yeah, I once had to make a 35 mm bridge.

My favorite tool (besides my titanium-cutting pliers) is the ol' Numont plier. So many uses!

My favorite adjustments are the ones where the suffering customer comes in with a pair of glasses they purchased elsewhere obviously adjusted by a non-skilled or just lazy person ie: no adjustment at all. I don't do anything special but I get the "wow" response from my future customer.
