Shamir Autograph 11

I can't get any info for this specific. The autograph 11 I see avail in both
fixed and variable, but when you order them you don't specify. What is
the diff. to the wearer. Anyone? I know it is backside dig. surf. we are having good reviews by wearers but I always wonder is this picking of fixed/vs/variable something that the lab (hoya) does at random?
