Not talking national politics, but there was something in our local elections that struck me.
Almost across the board, in Ohio, Mental Health, and Library issues were soundly defeated. On the other hand, most township levies, such as road maintenance were passed. I guess folks are really narrowing down the minimum that they can contribute to society. The library issue's going down is fine w/me, but the mental health issue will have far-reaching implications, that will come back to haunt us.
We also voted to put casinos in 4 large cities across the state. I voted against this, as I think it is going to hurt local restaurants, and other small businesses. It's not like there will now be casinos in only Vegas, Atlantic City, and Cincinnati. They're in almost every state, so there's really no novelty there. I don't really care about people being addicted to gambling, because if they were, they'd find it anywhere. I just think that there is only so much discretionary income, and by golly, they should be saving every penny and spending it on high priced eye wear!!:bbg:
