    Fancy edger name

I have the need to order some lenses to fit an Oakely Flack Jacket (TM) (patent pending) (wholly owned subsidiary of Luxottica, Intnl.) frame. They happen to be the kind of interchangeable lenses that need to have a special groove cut at the top of the lens, and a pointy hook on it (please don't be intimidated by my technical jargon).

What do you call that type of edger? I know Pech can do it, but I want to know if my "normal lab" can, and I don't want to ask them if they have "that fancy edger-thingy".

Might possibly be able to do it on a Santinelli ME-1000 or Optronics Helix edger.

i would call and ask if they have the ability to edge lenses for a flak jacket.

then if they ask WTF that is, explain it the same way you did to all of us.

If the Santinelli can, I haven't found a lab with one that can pull it off. The Helix should be able to, but the trick is programming the edger to do it. The only labs I'm aware of at this time that can do the Flak Jacket are using the MEI. I have actually lent a Half Jacket and a vented Jawbone to one of my labs to play with and see if they can get their new Helix to do it. I'm sure they will, but it will take some time. Pech charges a hefty fee to do those. Try Zeiss KY. They can do them, at a lot lower cost...

You might want to talk to Dan @ Digital Eye Lab. They just got a Helix, and they do Freeform. They have a new in-house wrapped freeform that's really nice. His extension is 133.

I always thought a fancy name for an edger would be Beauregard.

It may be Briot top of the line, but beware, check out the competition. I'm partial to the GerberCoburn Kappa CTD system. Tried them all and for the money and for what it can do better than the Briot is overpriced.

As to the OP's origional question on the MEI, it will do circle's around both of these. Apples and oranges here people, as some are designed as lab edgers, and some in office.
