    Parents of perfect children.

This lady comes in today for her third set of nose pads on her daughter's frame. The nose pad arms are bent way up and spread out as far as they can go. One nose pad has been broken off this time. According to Mom,these glasses are complete crap! They've had to replace the nose pads three times in as many months. Also, last time we replaced them with Guess pads and this isn't a Guess frame. That means that they are the wrong ones and they suck. :hammer:I told the mom that nose pads are nose pads and she didn't believe it. I replaced both with new football shaped silicon pads of the same size. I'm sure somehow they are defective or not good enough. Before I put the nose pad arm back in to the correct position I told mom that her daughter was most likely adjusting the frames herself. Of course the little angel denies it. I also said that,"I'm not trying to say there's something wrong with her. All kids adjust there own glasses to some extent". Nope, not this one, couldn't be true. She's not rough on glasses according to omom. Too bad this is her first pair and there is no real basis for drawing that conclusion. Also, we can't seem to ever get the glasses adjusted right according to mom. They are always crooked. I put the glasses back into perfect 4 point alignment and adjusted the new nose pads properly. Then I asked mom to look at how it was adjusted so she could see how the nose pads should look. I know that it will come back again with a very bent pad arm in a month or so. The child is bending the pad arm by twisting on the pad itself. Mom is convinced that the whole world is against her and that they have been hornswoggled on some crappy glasses. We have other kids who beat the crap out of these frames and don't have these problems.

PS-don't get me started on the mom who claimed her child was not chewing up the temples even though they were covered in bite marks. Kid said no, so it must be true. I guess the temple biting fairy was sneaking in at night to mess up his glasses.

When this happens, I tell mom to talk to the child's teacher about letting other students chew on their kid's glasses. Usually snaps mom around to my way of thinking.

not to defend the kid, but maybe it was the cat.

Cats and dogs will usually chew the nosepads too. Plus a cat has much smaller teeth than a child. If it was a dog, there usually isn't anything left of the tips.

The patient decided not to take the free replacement frame and ordered glasses somewhere else. She was offended that we claimed her child was adjusting the glasses herself. With such thin skin, life must be a continuing series of insulting remarks.

Someone else's problem?? I think in this case I would have gladly told her to come back if the new glasses from the "other place" need adjusting. That way when they come back in the same condition you could make your point.

    I wonder if she's married?:(

Now she's also somebody else's customer.

One motto I've learned: Treat children like adults, and adults like children.

Try to also make sure that the kids think they actually picked out the glasses, that helps to ensure somewhat that they will wear them.
